The Society for Phenomenology and the Human Sciences

The Society for Phenomenology and Human Sciences is the leading academic society in the United States concerned with the continuing theoretical development and practical application of the phenomenological tradition in the human sciences. SPHS encourages the application of phenomenological methodology to specific concrete investigations of the human and social sciences. The diverse fields represented in the membership of the Society include anthropology, communication studies, counseling, education, ethnography, ethnomethodology, geography, history, linguistics, nursing, pedagogy, philosophy, political theory, psychology, social theory, and sociology.

Through our annual conference (held in conjunction with the meetings of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy) the Society offers an on-going forum through which the best work in phenomenologically-oriented cultural, social, and political theory may be expressed.

Annual dues are $50 for general membership and $20 for students and those with low income. Dues include the cost of registration at the annual conference.
