Fast Pitch Inductees for 2008 Are Players Jack Barile of Plainville and Former Franklin

The Connecticut ASA Hall of Fame has announced its newest fast pitch softball inductees. The five new Hall of Famers, along with their slow pitch counterparts to be announced shortly, will be honored at a dinner on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4 pm at Costa Azzurra Restaurant in Milford. Tickets for the dinner are $35.

Fast pitch inductees for 2008 are players Jack Barile of Plainville and former Franklin Cardinals Skip Carino and Charles Henry, who both now reside in Massachusetts. Joseph Murphy of Rocky Hill is being inducted as an umpire, and Jim Reynolds of New Haven goes in for his longtime service to softball.

Barile, a lifetime .272 hitter, played for thirty years with four Connecticut based teams: Brass Rail in Hartford (1956-1962), Mar-Parks, New Britain (1963-1971), Dovelettes, East Hartford (1972-1974) and Reed Construction, Manchester (1975-1985).

He played in three regional tournaments with Mar-Parks, and as a catcher and first baseman, he participated in eight National Class “A” Tournaments with Reed Construction.

Carino began his career in 1975 with the Melrose Mets and retired after the 2002 season with World Class Logistics in Newton, MA. From 1980 to 1984, he played for the Franklin Cardinals in Stratford. He was a member of the Cardinals when they won the National ASA Tournament in1983.

During his career, Carino played in 20 regional tournaments, 13 national tournaments and two world tournaments. In the 1992 Class “A” Tournament, he was selected First Team All American as a catcher. Skip had a lifetime batting average of . 278 and hit 175 homeruns while playing three positions: catcher, third base and first base.

Henry spent his first 13 years playing with three Massachusetts teams: the Revere Hurricanes, Melrose Mets, and Marsh Post of Cambridge. In 1979, he joined the Raybestos Cardinals and remained with the Franklin Cardinals for the next five years.

As a catcher and slick fielding first baseman, he batted .282 in his career, and participated in eight New England Regional Tournaments, five National Tournaments, and one World Tournament.

Murphy became a member of the CT Independent ASA Umpires organization in 1980 officiating fast pitch games in the West Hartford FP League while working a full schedule of games in slow pitch as well. His reputation made him widely sought as he was assigned to high school games by three different umpire boards.

He worked in several ASA Regional Tournaments including Lewiston, ME Slow Pitch (1991); Waterville, ME Modified (1994), and the Major Modified Regionals in Bloomington, ME, also in 1994. . Reynolds has served the CASA in several capacities during the past 30 years. As an Assistant Commissioner to Phil Scarpellino in the New Haven District, Jim played a significant role in the success of many local, state, regional and national qualifying tournaments held at Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford.

He has been an ASA umpire for 30 years, and also had an outstanding career as a player on teams such as Luciani Sports and Bender Plumbing. Reynolds was also president of the State Classic Softball League for nine years.
