Present a Patriarch

PRESENT A PATRIARCH

STUDENT OBJECTIVES

- Students will:

o Learn to ask relevant questions before beginning a research project

o Learn to take notes and categorize information as they create graphic organizers

o Improve comprehension as they read and skim text for main ideas and details

o Develop research skills (book and Internet) with the purpose of teaching the class what they have learned

o Learn to work in a group, dividing tasks so that work is completed in an efficient manner.

INSTRUCTIONS

- Step 1: Using your sources, complete the Biography Cube about your assigned Patriarch.

o By completing the Biography cube, students will be asking questions which will aid in their research.

o Here students will be creating a graphic organizer (see below) to plan for Step 2.

- Step 2: Using your Biography Cube, create a short biographical summary of the Patriarch’s life.

o Here, the student needs to write a short biography. The Biography is meant to draw upon the information already assembled in Step 1. Students will decide which information from their Cubes is the most important and write the biography with that information.

o The Biography should not exceed 1 page (12pt Font, Times New Roman, SINGLE SPACE). They can use bullet points to list off their various biographical facts. The Biography should also include a picture – whether downloaded or drawn.

- Step 3: Using your Biographical summary, students will create Presentations in order to teach the class what has been learned about the assigned Patriarch. o Students will work within their groups to find a creative way to present the information and may use any resource at their disposal. However, the method of presentation must be approved by Mr. Tobin prior to presenting.

o While students are encouraged to come up with their own creative ways of presenting the material, they will be required to incorporate PowerPoint to ensure that other students are able to follow along and take notes.
