News Release ______ News Release _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Darren Rogers Senior Director, Communications & Media Services Churchill Downs Racetrack (502) 636-4461 (office) (502) 345-1030 (mobile) [email protected] KENTUCKY DERBY PURSE RAISED TO $3 MILLION; TURF CLASSIC PURSE DOUBLED, OAKS BOOSTED 15 Stakes Races Receive Hikes, Two Stakes Races Added to Record 34-Race, $12 Million Spring Meet Stakes Schedule at Churchill Downs Thanks to Early Returns from Derby City Gaming LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019) – The 145 th running of the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (Grade I) on Saturday, May 4 will be the richest in history as the purse for America’s greatest race and first leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown has been elevated to a guaranteed $3 million. The substantial $1 million increase to the 1 ¼-mile Kentucky Derby for 3-year-olds highlights a record-setting, 34- race stakes schedule cumulatively worth $12.03 million for Churchill Downs’ 2019 Spring Meet. Fifteen of the races received significant purse hikes, including the Old Forester Turf Classic (GI), Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI) and Humana Distaff (GI), and two new races were added to the historic Louisville racetrack’s action-packed season, which will be run over 38 dates from April 27-June 29. With a record $3 million in prize money now guaranteed for the Kentucky Derby, the winner will receive the event’s highly sought-after gold trophy and a $1.86 million payday. Also, $600,000 will be awarded to the runner-up, $300,000 to third, $150,000 to fourth and $90,000 to fifth. Previously, the Kentucky Derby purse had been worth $2 million since 2005, and was $1 million from 1996-2004. The 1 1/8-mile Longines Kentucky Oaks – the Derby’s sister race staged one day prior on Friday, May 3 – received a $250,000 boost to $1.25 million and remains the nation’s most lucrative race for 3-year-old fillies. It had been worth $1 million since 2011, and was worth $500,000 from 1996-2010. The race that annually precedes the Kentucky Derby, the 1 1/8-mile Old Forester Turf Classic, has been doubled from $500,000 to $1 million, making it one of the most lucrative Grade I grass races for older horses in North America and attractive to potential international competitors. Another Derby Day fixture, the seven-furlong Humana Distaff for older fillies and mares, had its purse enhanced by $200,000 from $300,000 to $500,000. All told, there will be a record 18 stakes races cumulatively worth $9.58 million staged over Kentucky Derby Week, including seven stakes totaling $6.2 million on Derby Day and six totaling $2.9 million on Oaks Day. There also will be a pair of stakes on the May 2 Thurby program and stakes races on Tuesday and Wednesday of Derby Week. The significant increases in stakes prize money are attributed to early returns from state-of-the-art historical racing machines at Derby City Gaming , Churchill Downs Incorporated’s $65 million facility that opened in mid-September at nearby 4520 Poplar Level Road. -more- Kentucky Derby Purse Raised to $3 Million; Turf Classic Purse Doubled, Oaks Boosted Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 Page 2 of 3 “Our recent investment into historical racing machines is paying immediate dividends to Kentucky horsemen,” said Churchill Downs Racetrack President Kevin Flanery . “It’s extremely gratifying to meaningfully raise the purse of the iconic Kentucky Derby and other important racing fixtures on our stakes schedule as we continue to advance the overall racing program at Churchill Downs. Our steady growth in available prize money is truly exciting for the Kentucky horse racing and breeding industry.” Purses at Churchill Downs in 2019 will be supercharged with more than an additional $10 million as a result of handle generated by Derby City Gaming’s initial year of operation. More than $30 million in total prize money – $12 million in stakes races and another $18 million in overnight races – is expected to be offered during this year’s Spring Meet. The first condition book of scheduled races is being finalized by Director of Racing Ben Huffman and is expected to be published in early February. Last year, Churchill Downs offered a 32-race Spring Meet stakes schedule worth $8.84 million and total purses paid during the 372-race meet was $22.2 million. The Stephen Foster (GII), the 1 1/8-mile test that has annually attracted some of the nation’s top older horses, will be worth $600,000 in 2019 and is one of four stakes that was boosted by $100,000. The others are the Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile (GII), American Turf presented by Ram Trucks (GII) and Pat Day Mile presented by LG&E and KU (GIII), which are now worth $400,000 apiece and run on the Derby Day undercard. Seven races received $50,000 hikes. Oaks Day’s Eight Belles (GII), Twin Spires Turf Sprint (GII), Edgewood presented by Forcht Bank (GIII) as well as mid-June’s Fleur de Lis (GII) and Wise Dan (GII) are now worth $250,000 each. The Matt Winn (GIII) and Regret (GIII) each have $150,000 purses. The Foster, Fleur de Lis, Wise Dan, Matt Winn and Regret will be run during a “Downs After Dark” nighttime program on Saturday, June 15 that features five graded stakes races under the lights cumulatively worth $1.4 million. Two $90,000-added overnight stakes races were added to the 2019 schedule: the Champions Day Marathon for older horses at 1 ½ miles on April 30, and the Mamzelle for 3-year-old fillies at five furlongs on turf on May 11. The American Graded Stakes Committee upgraded a trio of Churchill Downs stakes races for 2019 and downgraded two others. The $500,000 Churchill Downs over seven furlongs on Derby Day has been raised to Grade I status, and Oaks Day’s Twin Spires Turf Sprint was elevated to a Grade II race. Also, opening night’s $100,000 William Walker for 3-year-olds at five furlongs on turf is now a Listed stakes race. The Stephen Foster was downgraded from Grade I to Grade II, and the $100,000 Aristides lost its Grade III status to become a Listed stakes race. In other changes to the stakes schedule, the Stephen Foster, Fleur de Lis, $100,000 Old Forester Mint Julep (GIII) and $100,000 Louisville (GIII) will no longer be run under handicap conditions. Also, the distances of the Twin Spires Turf Sprint and $100,000 Unbridled Sidney (formerly an overnight stakes race and now the headliner on Thurby) have been extended from five furlongs on turf to 5 ½ furlongs on grass. -more- Kentucky Derby Purse Raised to $3 Million; Turf Classic Purse Doubled, Oaks Boosted Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019 Page 3 of 3 2019 CHURCHILL DOWNS SPRING MEET STAKES SCHEDULE Day/Date Running Grade Purse Race Age/Sex Distance Surface Saturday, April 27 5th $100,000 William Walker (Listed) 3yo 5 F Turf Tuesday, April 30 1st $90,000 Champions Day Marathon Overnight Stakes 3&u p 1 ½ M Dirt Wednesday, May 1 26 th $100,000 Kentucky Juvenile 2yo 5 F Dirt Thursday, May 2 9th $100,000 Unbridled Sidney 3&up f/m 5 ½ F Turf Thursday, May 2 14 th $90,000 Opening Verse Overnight Stakes 3&up 1 M Turf Friday, May 3 145 th I $1,250,0 00 Longines Kentucky Oaks 3yo f 1 1/8 M Dirt Friday, May 3 34 th I $500,000 La Troienne 4&up f/m 1 1/16 M Dirt Friday, May 3 16 th II $400,000 Alysheba 4&up 1 1/16 M Dirt Friday, May 3 64 th II $250,000 Eight Belles 3yo f 7 F Dirt Friday, May 3 25 th II $250,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint 3&up 5 ½ F Turf Friday, May 3 35 th III $250,000 Edgewood presented by Forcht Bank 3yo f 1 1/16 M Turf Saturday, May 4 145 th I $3,000,000 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve 3yo 1 ¼ M Dirt Saturday, May 4 33 rd I $1,000,000 Old Forester Turf Classic 4&up 1 1/8 M Turf Saturday, May 4 85 th I $500,000 Churchill Downs 4&up 7 F Dirt Saturday, May 4 33 rd I $500,000 Humana Distaff 4&up f/m 7 F Dirt Saturday, May 4 34 th II $400,000 Longines Churchill Distaff Turf Mile 4&up f/m 1 M Turf Saturday, May 4 28 th II $400,000 American Turf presented by Ram Trucks 3yo 1 1/16 M Turf Saturday, May 4 95 th III $400,000 Pat Day Mile presented by LG&E and KU 3yo 1 M Dirt Saturday, May 11 1st $90,000 Mamzelle Overnight St akes 3yo f 5 F Turf Saturday, May 18 82 nd III $100,000 Louisville 3&up 1 ½ M Turf Saturday, May 25 16 th III $100,000 Winning Colors 3&up f/m 6 F Dirt Saturday, May 25 7th $90,000 Keertana Overnight Stakes 3&up f/m 1 ½ M Turf Saturday, June 1 31 st $100,000 Aristides (Listed) 3&up 6 F Dirt Saturday, June 1 4th $90,000 Mighty Beau Overnight Stakes 3&up 5 F Turf Saturday, June 8 43 rd III $100,000 Old Forester Mint Julep 3&up f/m 1 1/16 M Turf Saturday, June 15 38 th II $600,000 Stephen Foster 3&up 1 1/8 M Dirt Saturday, June 15 44 th II $250,000 Fleur de Lis 3&up f/m 1 1/8 M Dirt Saturday, June 15 30 th II $250,000 Wise Dan 3&up 1 1/16 M Turf Saturday, June 15 22 nd III $150,000 Matt Winn 3yo 1 1/16 M Dirt Saturday, June 15 50 th III $150,00 0 Regret 3yo f 1 1/8 M Turf Saturday, June 22 10 th $90,000 Roxelana Overnight Stakes 3&up f/m 6 F Dirt Saturday, June 29 118 th III $100,000 Bashford Manor 2yo 6 F Dirt Saturday, June 29 119 th $100,000 Debutante (Listed) 2yo f 6 F Dirt Saturday, Ju ne 2 9 10 th $90,000 Kelly’s Landing Overnight Stakes 3&up 7 F Dirt -END- .

(Friday, July 5, 2019) – In the face of a fiercely-debated Kentucky Derby result that triggered national conversation for weeks, Churchill Downs Racetrack delivered all-around positive results – from record prize-money for horsemen to large fields, high-quality participants and bigger payouts for bettors – during its 145 th Spring Meet, which concluded an action-packed, nine-week run on Saturday, June 29. Thanks to robust business from state-of-the-art historical racing machines at nearby Derby City Gaming purses were supercharged for the 2019 Spring Meet, and a record $32.2 million was paid to horsemen during the popular 38-day stand that ran April 27-June 29. It was a significant 44.7% or $9.9 million increase from the $22.2 million paid over last year’s Spring Meet. Derby City Gaming opened last year in mid-September at nearby 4520 Poplar Level Road after Churchill Downs Incorporated made a $65 million investment to construct a facility that features nearly 1,000 historical racing machines, two restaurants, a center bar and multiple entertainment options. “As promised, our investment into Derby City Gaming is paying immediate dividends and directly benefiting the city of Louisville and Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Kevin Flanery , President of Churchill Downs Racetrack.

Heiligbrodt Racing Stable Owners: Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt Residence: Houston, Texas • During their 30 years in Thoroughbred racing, Texas natives Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt have yet to win a Breeders’ Cup race, but this year have a formidable contender in brilliant sprinter/miler Mitole, who could carry their white and orange colors in the $1 million Big Ass Fans Dirt Mile (G1) or $2 million Sprint (G1). • Gained automatic berth into the Dirt Mile by winning the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap (G1), a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win & You’re In” race in June at Belmont Park. That victory, by three-quarters of a length over favorite and top older runner McKinzie with two-time Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Thunder Snow (IRE) another neck back in third, was Mitole’s second of three at the highest level in 2019. • Mitole gave a stakes record-setting performance at Saratoga Race Course in the seven- furlong Forego Stakes Presented by Encore Boston Harbor (G1) Aug. 24 after rebounding from a disappointing third in the six-furlong Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) in July. • The seven-furlong Churchill Downs Stakes presented by Twinspires.com (G1) in May on Kentucky Derby Day marked Mitole’s first Grade 1 win and provided the Heiligbrodts a Grade 1 double that day when Mia Mischief, campaigned with partners the Heider Family Stable and Sol Kumin’s Madaket Stables, won the Humana Distaff (G1). • The Forego win improved Mitole’s career record to 9-2-2 from 13 starts and $2,004,910 in purse earnings. • Bill Heiligbrodt purchased Mitole in the name of his East Hickman Bloodstock for $140,000 at the 2017 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in training after the colt worked an eighth of a mile in :10 in the under-tack preview show.

News Release _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Gary Yunt Kentucky Derby Notes Team Captain Churchill Downs Racetrack (502) 636-4460 (office) [email protected] IT’S SEVENTH HEAVEN AT BAFFERT BARN FOLLOWING MEDINA SPIRIT’S HISTORIC KENTUCKY DERBY VICTORY LOUISVILLE, KY (Sunday, May 2, 2021) – Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert added his record-breaking seventh Kentucky Derby trophy to his collection Saturday when Zedan Racing’s Medina Spirit held on to win the 147th running of the “Run for the Roses.” “Can he win the Triple Crown? I don’t know. But he’s the Derby winner, and that’s all that matters,” Baffert said Sunday morning at Barn 33. “I was coming in here, thinking, I wasn’t sure (if Medina Spirit could win the Derby), everything had to go perfect for him. We were going to go to the lead, and see what happened. What if they challenged him? He made the lead pretty easily, for him, and the other speed horse didn’t break (Rock Your World). That’s what it’s like in the Derby: You have to get the trip; the other speed horse didn’t get the trip. “Going down the backside, he was doing it easy, you could tell he was enjoying himself. His ears were forward. And turning for home, they came for him, and he just dug in. I didn’t know if he was going to do it. He fought hard, and ran sort of the same race that he did at Santa Anita when he won the Robert Lewis.

Locally-based handicappers and horsemen weighed in on the 1 ½-mile “Test of Champions.” • TwinSpires.com Handicapper Ed DeRosa : “In a Kentucky Derby prep and Triple Crown season when this group has run competitive in the 95-100 Brisnet.com Speed Rating range, I am looking for a horse in the Belmont Stakes who is capable of a breakthrough number at a price and landed on Master Fencer as that possibility. His suck up seventh (placed sixth) in the Kentucky Derby portends that move forward five weeks later, and we’ll get the right price.” • Trainer Tim Glysahw: “I think War of Will is the one to beat off his recent form. He should be able to get the distance, too. If I were to use any other horse in the race, maybe (Mark) Casse’s other one, (Sir Winston) could run well with his pedigree. Also, Bourbon War seems like he could like the 1 ½-mile distance with his pedigree.” • Trainer Chris Hartman : “Tacitus for me.” • Jockey Agent Steve Krajcir : “I’m sticking to my guns on this one and going with War of Will.” • Churchill Downs Handicapper Joe Kristufek : “Sir Winston finished best of all in the Tampa Bay Derby and I’m not going to hold the Blue Grass clunker over an extremely biased race track against him.
