1 Personal Experience Narrative Students will write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure. 2 Research Report (Expository): Students will participate in shared research and writing projects. Students will write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. 3 Reading Response BOY MOY EOY (responses to literature read or heard) Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supplies a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure. With guidance and support from adults, students will focus on a topic, respond to questions and suggestions from peers, and add details to strengthen writing as needed. 4 Learning Log (Expository) MOY EOY (entries for Science, Social Studies or Math) Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supplies a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure. 5 Digital Copy of a piece (student choice) With guidance and support from adults, the student will use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing. 6 Spelling Inventory BOY MOY EOY Staple in Writing Portfolio 7 TRC Written Response (at level F or higher) BOY MOY EOY

*Writing sample can be completed at any time during the year for products 1, 2, and 5

* Mid-year check will take place on the writing within a working portfolio (i.e.: writing notebook). The end-of-year check will take place on student selected work placed within the official writing portfolio folder. Final portfolio check completed before EOG testing
