8:45-10:15 Breakout Session 1- Key Note Speaker- Exploring the Use of Yoga for Your Therapeutic Recreational Community: What to know, How to Begin – Presenter(s) : Rhonda Cook CEU.15

Session Description: Yoga embodies the healthcare Triple Aim, coined by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in 2007. The Triple Aim optimizes the public health system’s approach by serving three goals: improving the health of populations, reducing costs, and improving patient experience of care. All three of these focuses, and especially the latter (improving patient experience of care), make yoga an ideal modality for implementing safe, therapeutic, transformational recreation in clinics, yoga studios, human service organizations and within therapeutic communities. To most effectively facilitate yoga in a TR environment, close attention should be paid to instructor qualifications, client needs (contraindications), location and program sustainability.

Session Description: The goal of this session is to enhance the knowledge of students and professionals on the understanding of what your job duties and task really are as a professional in the field of Recreational Therapy and how your job may be impacted in the ever changing field of insurance reimbursement.

Session Description: An overview of what forms and additional required documents are needed to obtain your license as quickly as possible. Learn how to use the new NCBRTL online application process.

12:15-1:15 Breakout Session 4- Adapted Sports Opportunities for People with Physical Disabilities – Presenter(s): Parissa S. Fathullahzadeh CEU .1

Session Description: This presentation will focus on adapted sports opportunities available to people with physical disabilities, educate on the empowerment model used to create positive outcomes, and provide information on the development of adapted sports in the school system and collegiate levels for students with physical disabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to play 3 adapted sports. 12:15- 1:15 Breakout Session 5- Therapeutic Intervention Activities –Presenter(s): Lacey Burgess Hatley. CEU .1

Session Description: Learn about different intervention activities and how they can be modified for the benefit of different populations.

1:30-2:45 Breakout Session 6- Pursing a Graduate Degree in RT: Benefits, Credentials, and Pathways – Presenter(s): Matthew Fish, PhD, LRT/CTRS, LPCA, BCB and David Loy, PHD, LRT/CTRS CEU .1

Session Description: This session will provide an overview of the benefits of obtaining a graduate degree in recreational therapy, additional credentials that can be attained, special considerations when choosing a program, as well as, traditional and non-traditional pathways to a graduate degree. The discussion will address how graduate education can help with the advancement of the profession, prepare the individuals for advancements in their own careers, and be more marketable when applying for positions.

1:30-2:45 Breakout Session 7- Music and Memory: Clinical Applications and Implications for Recreational Therapy – Presenter(s): Susan W. Wood MS, LRT, CTRS; Deborah Ferris (possibly); Robin Lombardo CTRS, CDP (possibly) CEU .1

Session Description: Provide an overview of the development and science behind Music & Memory program. Provide real world examples of Music & Memory program outcomes and documentation demonstration. Provide discussion opportunity on how to incorporate Music & Memory in all Recreational Therapy settings. Discuss potential challenges to and provide possible solutions for implementing a successful Music & Memory program in TR settings.

3:00-4:00 Breakout Session 8- Community Reintegration Barriers –Presenter(s) Julie Bradwell CEU .1

Session Description: Your consumers are nervous, afraid, and apprehensive to go out into the “real” world after hospitalization. It is our job to make sure they have the knowledge for a successful outcome to reintegrate back into society once they have been injured or are newly diagnosed. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of what to include in a barrier free session to educate your consumer, so you can start a session next week!

3:00- 4:00 Breakout Session 9- Snagging the perfect internship and keeping it! – Presenter(s): Abena K. Jones-Boone, MHSA, LRT/CTRS, CDP and Rashonna R. Avery, LRT/CTRS, CDP, VHA-CM CEU .1

Session Description: This session will provide students with the tools necessary to develop the skills needed to acquire and maintain an internship placement that is ideal for them. During this 90 minute session, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of professional performance based interviewing, how to market themselves based upon knowledge learned at the University level, incorporating the TR process effectively once site is selected to include: documentation skills, oral presentation skills, research, facilitating and implementing interventions, and exhibiting appropriate interpersonal skills within a professional setting.
