JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: Part time Retail & Administration Assistant

HOURS: 26 hours to include alternate Saturdays

SALARY SCALE: £14,695 rising to £15,295 (pro-rata) after a successful 6 month probationary period

RESPONSIBLE TO: Retail & Distribution Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Sales, Merchandising and Administration

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT: 20 working days per year rising to 25 days (pro-rata) 3 concessionary days (to be used in agreement with Senior Management).

PLACE OF WORK: Tewkesbury but may be required to work at other sites as required.

BACKGROUND

We had begun to operate in 1994 under a local founder charity. Then in 1996 the Furniture Recycling Project (“FRP”) was established as an independent Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee in order to meet the increasing demand for our services in Gloucestershire.

To create a better community: (i) through the prevention or the relief of poverty and financial hardship by the re-use, recycling and supplying of items of furniture, electrical appliances and other household items to persons in need; (ii) by engaging with charities, statutory bodies or other organisations, which can support and complement our objectives, in order to prevent or relieve poverty; (iii) by offering volunteering and learning opportunities to individuals for the development of their work and social skills in environmentally beneficial activities; (iv) by encouraging individuals and organisations to support the protection and preservation of the environment for the public benefit through the promotion of waste reduction, re-use, reclamation, recycling, and use of recycled products; (v) by developing associated services that support the relief of poverty and financial hardship in such ways as the trustees think fit.

KEY FUNCTIONS

To oversee the day to day admin requirements of our Tewkesbury shop and the continued growth of our activities whilst being mindful of the objectives of the Project. To ensure this happens, we need to maintain and improve our sales performance,

Work as part of an overall team to ensure the effective functioning of all FRP group’s activities to achieve the key objectives of FRP, as identified in the Articles and Memorandum of Association. The post holder will be accountable for meeting sales targets, merchandising and maintaining the administration tasks associated with the role. To be a key member of our retail operation, ensuring a quality service is offered to all of our customers, whether it be in person or via other means of communication.

Provide a positive experience for those wishing to donate products, by ensuring any contact made is valued.

PRINCIPAL TASKS

. To ensure that all customers are provided with a quality service and that all sales opportunities are maximised.

. Develop sales and merchandising of the Projects goods, including pricing and stock rotation.

. To provide daily support to your Line Manager in his/her tasks, and or satellite units when required.

. Maintain and improve filing and record keeping for the Project.

. Monitor telephone fax systems, ensuring all calls are actioned promptly.

. Provide support, advice and guidance to volunteers working within the retail section of FRP.

. To undertake training, where appropriate and to develop work practices and relevant skills.

. To work additional hours to cover holidays etc.

them in all aspects of work is essential.

 Ensure a safe, reliable and courteous service of a high quality is provided to those using the services of FRP, providing them with a positive customer experience.

 To ensure all policies and procedures are carried out in line with the employment guidelines laid out in the employees’ handbook.

 Ensure you maintain a safe working environment, ensuring you report any concerns to your line manager of the Project’s Health & Safety officer.

OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES

 To ensure that the full sales potential of the shop is obtained at all times, both for FRP and NFP (the new goods arm of FRP).

 To liaise with the Senior Retail Distribution Manager to ensure adequate cover during periods of holiday, sickness etc.

 To liaise with the distribution team to ensure a fast and efficient delivery and collection of goods.

 To maintain the administration within the retail unit, utilising the database to manage the collection and sales to its maximum.

 Provide regular activity reports as required

 To ensure all sales records and banking are completed daily.

 The role involves a degree of manual handling in sorting and lifting stock.

OTHER DUTIES

 Continuous Professional Development is essential and you will be encouraged to undertake training wherever appropriate, to develop work practices and relevant skills, both individually and for colleagues.

 It is important you understand the needs of other work areas, share information with colleagues and others if appropriate, to enable all functions of FRP to develop and improve our services.

 The nature of this post will dictate that in a small organisation, the person appointed must be flexible, and when required, carry out duties outside the detailed job description.
