Agenda Item #5 Open Forum

a. General Public No was present from the general public b. Written Bob Fleck had a request from the family of Vickie Tulcus to have a lantern launch. The purchased a tree memorial in her name and are planning a memorial on May 9th and would like to include a lantern launch. After discussion the Board approved the lantern launch.

Ron stated that the Historical Society sent a letter thanking the Board for their help and support and for the new window shades for the Gregg House Museum. They included a check for $500. c. SEASPAR Special Olympics Ron invited Michelle Forzley to address the Board about her involvement with the Special Olympics. This is her 13th year participant in SEASPAR. In 2004 she was the 2004 SEASPAR Athlete of the Year. Her new title is: Global Messenger for Special Olympics. Susan Friend SEASPAR Director addressed the Board with additional information about SEASPAR. She spoke about the work of the Action Club, stated that the 3 year Strategic Plan is complete. She also reported that Lisle Park District will be giving SEASPAR some program space for the next 15 years. The member contributions should remain the same for the next 3 years due to program revenue, fundraisers, etc. Sue thanked everyone for their continued support.

Agenda Item #6 Unfinished Business

a. Land Acquisition Grant Update Ron had no additional information at this time. b. Review 2013 Budget Workshop Proposed Projects/Equipment Ron submitted the project list to the Board from last’s week’s workshop. He transferred funds to Corp/Rec to cover some projects and he also noted that $7,500 for the Ty Sculpture is included. Comm. Karesh inquired about satellite radio expense. A discussion followed and the Board agreed to try it for one year and see how it goes. c. Ty Sculpture – Review Bob is waiting for Ty Warner to sign a general agreement on size and location of the statute. Bob has requested a formal quote from the statue designer. They in turn have requested an approval letter from Ty Inc. and 50% down payment. The total cost will be between $19,000 and $20,000. d. Other There was no other unfinished business.

Agenda Item #7 New Business

a. Solicit Bids on $75,000 bonds for June 1, 2013 This bond is to cover the interest payment on the alternate bonds. Ron will request bids on the bonds from local bank to be due at the May Board meeting for Board approval. b. Legislative Conference – Springfield April 30 to May1 Ron explained that April 30, 2013 is the Parks Day at the Capital. Comm. Main, Comm. Karesh, Bob, Steve, Kim, Ron will be attending. We will participate with a display table in the Capital. c. IMRF Update Ron provided information in the Board’s packets about IMRF. IMRF is 85% funded and Westmont Park District is 78% funded. Our rate has dropped 1% from last year. d. Other Joel presented the idea to change the website address to www.westmontpark s.org. The Board agreed to the change.

Agenda Item #8 Staff Reports

Craig: The golf course is finally open as of March 30, 2013. The weather has been a big factor windy and cold not a good start to spring. All leagues are signed up and ready to start the 2013 season, Monday and Tuesday seniors, Wednesday St Issac of Hinsdale, Thursday Ace golf league, Friday Above Par, Monday night Uptown and Tuesday night Yeazers

Joel: Over the past month I have been working on a number of different projects. I have been working with other staff members helping them develop promotional materials and flyers. I have also been upgrading computers as well as repairing them. I have been using a process of age and performance to decide when it is time to upgrade a computer. If the staff member is still able to work efficiently I will wait until an upgraded is needed. I have also been finishing up quotes and other information for reports on the revenue facilities for budget workshop. I also have been developing new adult and fitness classes for the program guide. Lastly I worked with Jaqui at the Fitness Club to develop a member challenge where we total the member’s time spent on fitness for 5 weeks and determine a winner. This is very popular with the members and brings renewed interest to the club.

Steve From Monday, March 25-Friday, March 29 we had our Spring Break Camparama program. We had 9 participants in the camp which included activities such as: Lego Land, Apple Computer Store, Game Pazzo and Lost Mountain Mini Golf. Programs that have concluded this month include: Adult Dance and Cool Science: Marine Biology. Programs that will start this month include: Horsemanship, Babysitter Training, and First Aid for Little People, and Bugs. Teen activities will include: Paintball On April 3, I was informed that the Westmont Park District was a recipient of the Power Play Grant. We will use this money to help purchase and replace equipment, provide educational field trips and offer a parent/child Yoga class. Also this month I have started to contact staff about the Spray Park and Backstop. The Backstop will open on Wednesday, May 8. We will be offering new products and continue to offer exceptional customer service. Spray Park will open May 25.

Kim: The Summer Program Guide has been uploaded to the printer. It is scheduled to be delivered to residents April 25-28. We are proud of how the guide looks and will being registration for residents on May 9. Non-resident registration begins on May 16. I am preparing for Parks Day at the Capitol; the Westmont Park District table will be among 35 others in the Capitol building from 10:00am-3:00pm on Tuesday, April 30. We will be handing out promotional materials for our agency and beanie babies (donated by Ty, Inc.), and will attend the IAPD Legislative Conference the following day. We met with staff at the Taiwanese Cultural Center last month. We discussed possible programming in the fall with the women who offer cooking and exercise classes at the Cultural Center. Easter events were a HUGE success, thanks to the hard work by Linda W. and Alice. The Bites with the Bunny was full and the Easter Egg Hunt was very, very well attended. We will be planning an After Hours at Twin Lakes Golf Club for May; tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 9. We will be hosting WCCTB members to come by for drinks and appetizers, and also running a Putting Contest for those who want to compete. I will provide final details when they are decided upon. The Race to the Flag is coming up quickly! I continue to work on race promotions, shirts and awards.

Alice: Senior Trips – Registration for winter trips and programs continues: Income Tax assistance concludes April 15th. There are no appointments open. The Senior Golf league season begins April 29 and will run through September 30. All the letters and tee times have been mailed out. We will be offering the “enroll a new member” special. Current members who bring in new members receive a free round of golf. At this time, the league has 124 golfers. New registrations will be accepted through June 1st. The Art Show and the Craft show went very well this year. Approximately 150 people came to visit and shop. The annual Bites with the Bunny program and Easter Egg Hunt were held on Saturday, March 30. The weather was great! Bites with the Bunny was sold out with 80 participants. The egg hunt had approximately 300 attendees. Linda and I are finishing the Senior Newsletter. It will be available in late April.

Museum— We are setting up an exhibit on JFK. This year is the 50th anniversary of his assassination. We will have two guest speakers- one in June and one in September. The first one will talk about Kennedy’s assassination. The other will portray Jackie Kennedy. We are still looking for memorabilia to put on exhibit. If you have something to share, let us know. Beer Making 101 is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th at 7:30pm. There will be a tour of the museum before the class. For $35, the Home Brew Shop of St. Charles will teach the basic skills of making your own great beer. Yes, there will be “sensory evaluation” at the end of class! Class will be held in the Linden room. We have 2 people registered. We need 8 people to run this class.

The next historical society meeting will be held in Monday, April 22, 2013 at 7:00pm in the Richmond Room.

Cindy: A few weeks ago, Sergeant Jim Schlicher with the Westmont Police Department, visited the preschool staff and gave a safety presentation on “what to do” in the event of a threatening intruder at Twin Lakes Learning Center. The preschool focus for the month of April includes a unit on fantasy and rhymes, the life cycle of a caterpillar, and how seeds grow. Mother Goose and all her storybook friends will be joining us on Wednesday, April 24 at 10:00 a.m. in room 6 at the Community Center for a live and interactive performance. As part of this year’s end of preschool celebration, we are hosting a Family Fun Concert Night & Ice Cream Social on Thursday, May 9 in the gym from 6:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. for all the preschoolers and their families. Camp starts June 10 and runs through August 2 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. We offer both pre-camp from 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and post-camp from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. each day for an extra fee. Transportation is also available for an additional fee. Outside of that, I’m keeping busy with thoughts of camp and the summer fun curriculum.

At this time Comm. Karesh brought up some concerns about the blacktop path at Ty Warner Park.
