G. Bass, and is married to Dee Bass; and 26 27 Whereas, Tom Bass graduated from Central High School in 28 Mooresville in 1953 as “Most Athletic”; continued his education at 29 Maryville College, graduating in 1961 with a B.A in Biology; 30 graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Masters/United 31 States Sports Academy; and attended one year at the University of 32 Edinburgh in Scotland; and 33 34 Whereas, Tom Bass served his country in the United States Army, 35 82nd Airborne, Pathfinder Platoon with 69 jumps; and 36 37 Whereas, he is the loving father of sons and daughters-in-law: 38 Stephen and Barbie Bass and John and Samantha Bass; daughter 39 Laura Bass; daughter and son-in-law DeAnne and Robbie 40 Shoenleben; and the proud grandparents of Andrew, Hannah, and 41 Ian; and 42

1 [712] 1 1 Whereas, Coach Bass’ coaching experience prior to Seneca High 2 School includes: Sevier County High School in Tennessee 3 (1962-65); University of Tennessee as Freshman Coach (1966); 4 Clemson University as Freshman Coach under Coach Frank 5 Howard (1967-70), Defensive Line Coach under Coach Hootie 6 Ingram (1970-72), Defensive End Coach under Coach Parker 7 (1963-76), Running Back/Administrative Assistant under Coach 8 Pell (1977), and Administrative Assistant under Coach Danny 9 Ford (1978-79); and 10 11 Whereas, Coach Bass began his distinguished career at Seneca 12 High School on August 1, 1980, served as Athletic Director from 13 1983-99, and initially planned to retire on March 31, 1995; 14 however, he continued coaching football at Seneca High until 15 December 1998; and 16 17 Whereas, he ends his illustrious career at Seneca High School with 18 209 wins, 69 losses, 2 shut outs, 96 games where the opponents 19 were held scoreless, led his football team to the “Final 4” five 20 times, the Seneca Football Team was in the State Finals in 1996, 21 and seventy-seven athletes signed full scholarships during his 22 tenure. Coach Bass’ best season was in 1983 with 10 shut outs, 23 only 29 total points scored by opponents in 14 games; and 24 25 Whereas, Coach Bass was named the National Coach of the Year 26 in 1983; South Carolina Coach of the Year 3 times; Up-State Area 27 Coach of the Year 3 times; 3-A Region Coach of the Year 8 times; 28 Shrine Bowl Head Coach for the South Team in 1996; and Head 29 Coach of the North-South Game in 1991; and 30 31 Whereas, Coach Bass’ most recent honor was being named the 32 1999 Recipient of the Distinguished Coach Award from the South 33 Carolina Football Coaches Association – 500-600 football coaches 34 were in attendance as well as Governor Hodges; and 35 36 Whereas, Coach Bass has touched many lives in his thirty-six 37 seasons, and his contributions have earned him the justifiable 38 affection and respect of all those with whom he has come in 39 contact; and 40 41 Whereas, the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of 42 South Carolina are proud of the role Coach Tom Bass has played

1 [712] 2 1 in raising the profile of football and other sports in the Palmetto 2 State. Now, therefore, 3 4 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 5 concurring: 6 7 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 8 Carolina, by this resolution, offer their congratulations and best 9 wishes to Thomas Sidney Bass, Head Football Coach of Seneca 10 High School on the occasion of his retirement and on being named 11 the 1999 Recipient of the Distinguished Coach Award from the 12 South Carolina Football Coaches Association. 13 14 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 15 Coach Thomas Sidney Bass. 16 ----XX----
