Position Summary

The Community Education Officer reports to the Manager of Industry Partnerships and Education (Manager of IP&E) and is responsible for the day to day running of the Safer Sport Program (SSP) and Community Education Program (CEP). The purpose of this position is to grow and increase the accessibility of the SSP and CEP throughout South Australia. The role is also responsible for the coordinating and marketing of the Sports Injury Management Services (SIMS) and assisting with course facilitation. The Community Education Officer is responsible for the coordination of volunteers and casual staff for SSP and SIMS roles under the direction of the Manager of IP&E.

The position requires well established and effective communication and interpersonal skills in order to successfully interact with a broad range of customers.

Type of Employment: The position is full time (75 hours per fortnight) with some out of hours / weekend work required and will commence with a one year contract (6 month probationary period)*. Salary being offered is between $40,000 and $55,000, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. For delivery of community courses some intrastate travel will be required. *This will consist of a review of outcomes set during the first 6 months. At that time, by mutual agreement, an extension of contract beyond the initial 12 months may be offered along with professional development opportunities.

Location: The successful applicant will be based in the Sport Medicine Australia office within the grounds of the Office for Recreation and Sport at 27 Valetta Road, Kidman Park.

Responsible to  Day to day responsibility to the Manager of IP&E

The Organisation Sports Medicine Australia is:  A multi-disciplinary membership organisation inclusive of all medical and allied professions with an interest in sport and recreation;  A non profit health & safety promotion organization;  And a community education and industry service provider.

Membership Membership is inclusive of all medical and allied professions who have an interest in sport including Doctors, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dietitians, Sport Scientists and Optometrist. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

1. Sports Trainers and Community Education  Coordinate bookings of training venues and facilities;  Maintain the course facilitator database;  Process and distribute examination results and accreditation certificates;  Maintain course and student records, and other associated training course filing systems;  Maintain and update course presentations and materials in line with the SMA National Office and RTO guidelines;  Promotion and marketing of the Sports Trainers and Community Education program;  Attend weekend and out of hours courses as required.

2. Schools Courses  Coordinate bookings, send resources and invoices, etc.;  To promote courses in schools;  Update resources;  Coordinate the delivery of courses in schools;  Coordinate teachers in-service and professional development sessions;  Maintain administration records of participating schools;  Review course material including presentations and resources.

3. Sports Injury Management Services  Coordinate bookings for the Sports Injury Management Services;  Maintain Sports Trainers databases;  Sports trainer recruitment;  Allocation and rostering of sports trainers ;  Track sports trainer hours and confirm rosters have been completed;  Onsite delivery of sports trainers services;  Ordering of first aid supplies.

4. Meetings / Committees  Develop and maintain links and relationships with Development Officer network;  Attend Development Officer meetings and functions as required;  Coordinate meetings with the Sports Trainers Core and Reference Groups;  To work closely with the Manager of IP&E and Executive Officer.

5. Budget and financial systems  Prepare course budgets in association with Manager of IP&E;  Provide billing advice relating to SSP courses to the Finance Manager.

6. Customer Response  Phone calls and e-mails relating to SSP courses and SIMS;  Attend to Sports Trainer requests and grievances in accordance with policy and procedures.

7. Other roles and responsibilities  Under the direction of the Manager of IP&E liaise with State Sponsors including National Pharmacies, BDF and ASICS;  Participate in special projects and committees where required.

Essential Selection Criteria  Computing skills required with an intermediate level of understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer) and able to learn new programs and use the Internet with a high degree of ability;  An ability to work out of hours including weekend and night work;  Experience working in an administration and office environment, with a reasonable knowledge of the South Australian Sport and Recreation Environment;  Well developed and matured interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers;  Well-developed analytical and creative problem solving skills;  Evidence of coordinating volunteer and / paid staff;  High attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to identify and drive improvements to processes;  The ability to work independently and as part of a team;  Excellent organisational, time management and planning skills;  Support a healthy lifestyle and knowledge of the benefits of physical activity;

Desirable Selection Criteria  Hold a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessing;  Knowledge of Sports Medicine Australia and the Safer Sport Program;  Background in event coordination;  Understanding of the VET in Schools programs and National Training Packages;  Knowledge of SSABSA Health and Personal Development – Physical Education subject;  Experience in working in or with the education sector.

Qualifications  Current HLTFA301C/HLTFA311A Apply First Aid (Senior First Aid) Certificate or equivalent and / or Level 1 Sports Trainers Accreditation.  A current SA Driver License.
