Husbandry Technician I/II - Palo Alto, CA Under close to moderate supervision the Lab Animal Medicine Department (LAMD) Technician will pro- vide animal husbandry, investigator support, and/or cage wash duties.

The general responsibilities include:  General animal husbandry of LAMD species including: rodents, canines, and non-human pri- mates (NHPs)  Introduction and performance of specialized animal husbandry procedures and regulated species  Introduction to special caging needs (i.e. sterile housing, NHP, GMP, GLP)  Handling, restraint, weaning, sexing and identification methods of animals  Maintain accurate records for assigned areas  Recognize and report common signs of clinical illness within animals  Supply preparation and stocking  Assist in animal receiving process  Operation of cage washing equipment (cage washers, autoclaves etc.)  Monitoring of cage wash chemicals  Perform cage wash equipment temperature testing and documentation  Washing, autoclaving and preparation of animal caging and equipment  Washing and sanitation of miscellaneous facility equipment  Facility sanitation  Waste Disposal Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of husbandry experience working on rodents, non-human primates, or canines. Certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science or equivalent education in the life Sciences field is desirable. Job requires routine lifting of items such as food and bedding bags, racks of water bottles, and pushing of carts and racks of animals and supplies, and frequent contact with rodents, non-human primates and/or canines. Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and com- munications skills (written, oral and comprehension). Must be willing and able to work holidays, weekends and to adjust schedule to facilitate workload within the department.

Employee Specifications: Must be reliable, conscientious and attentive to detail. Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must have good written and verbal communication skills. Must work well in a team. Status: Temporary, nonexempt, 40 hours, 5days/week will include some holidays and Weekends. ***Eventual schedule will vary. Lots of OT is a must, and even some DT For the first few months while in training the candidate will work a Monday Friday schedule.
