Course Description: General Physical Education I, II, III, IV General Physical Education I will focus on any combination or variety of team sports, lifetime sports, and track and field events, aquatics/water sports, outdoor education experiences, rhythmic/dance, recreational games, gymnastics, and self defense. These activities provide basic methods to attain a healthy and active lifestyle. General Physical Education II, III, and IV enhance level one, level two and level three skills in the activities from previous General Physical Education courses and further promotes methods to attain a healthy and active lifestyle. Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced Team Sports Team Sports introduces skills, strategies and rules associated with team sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, and team handball and flag football. Intermediate Team Sports enhances skills and strategies in team sports such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, team handball and flag football. Advanced Team Sports provides opportunities to officiate and to enhance skills in team sports strategies. Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced Lifetime Sports The students will learn the terminology, rules and skills of various lifetime sports such as tennis, golf, badminton, and softball. Sportsmanship and safety are to be demonstrated. Intermediate Lifetime Sports enhances skills in lifetime sports such as bowling, golf, tennis, racquetball, baseball, and badminton, roller skating and skiing. Advanced Lifetime Sports allows students the opportunity to refine skills and explore technical aspects of lifetime sports.

Technology use: With the emergence of technology as a tool for learning, South Forsyth High School will be utilizing various resources to assist with instruction, including ANGEL, online textbooks, and interactive websites. In addition to these web based instructional tools, this course will also have a classroom set of textbooks. Should you feel that your child would benefit from having a textbook at home in addition to the classroom textbook, please contact your child’s teacher. Required Assignments: 1. Students must dress out in the required SFHS PE uniform. 2. Each student must participate in daily physical activities which will revolve around Team Sports. The student will understand the rules and regulations of team sports. 3. The student will be giving study guides and tested on each individual sport. Availability for Extra Help: Coaches are available before school for extra help in finishing assignments or making up workouts. Makeup Work: All missed work and assessments are the responsibility of the student when they are absent from school. A student who is absent on the class day before a regularly scheduled assessment will be responsible for completing the assignment on the regularly scheduled day and time. Students who have been absent more than two consecutive days (including the assessment day) will be given five (5) school days to make up the assessment and/or other assignments. This does not include major projects, research papers, etc., where the deadline has been posted in advance. The teacher has the discretion to grant a longer period of time to make up work if there are extenuating circumstances.

Grading Calculations for overall Course Average:  50 % (1st Sem. Course Work)  50% (2nd Sem. Course Work)

CONTENT OF GRADE: PERCENTAGE OF GRADE: Summative (Dress Out/Participation) 75% Formative (Tests) 25% **Note: The Summative and Formative assignments will make up 100% of a student’s course grade. Grading Policy: A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 Failing = Below 70

Class Policies:  DRESSING OUT IS REQUIRED. Students must be dressed out in tennis shoes, athletic socks, and a Mandatory P.E. Uniform. Uniforms are $25 dollars and are sold daily in the school store. Students not dressed in the correct attire will be given an alternate assignment.  For each 18 week grading period, the following is the school protocol for students not dressing out: o 1st offense = Warning o 2nd offense = Parent contact by teacher o 3rd offense = Detention served with a physical education teacher o 4th offense = Office referral resulting in an administrative detention o 5th offense = Office referral resulting in one day of ISS (In School Suspension) o 6th offense = Office referral resulting in Saturday School and a parent/ teacher/ administrative conference  Students will be given 6 minutes to dress at the beginning of the period and 10 minutes at the end of the period for dressing back into their school attire.

 Students must remain in the classroom setting (gym or track). The teacher’s permission will allow students to leave the class setting.

 Only doctor’s note will excuse a student for not dressing out. The student must bring paper and pencil to class for an alternative assignment.

 All daily assignments will be posted on the homework hotline section of my webpage.

Students who are absent or have a doctor’s excuse not to participate will be required to hand in a two page handwritten report on the unit of study.  FOOD, DRINK, OR GUM IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASS SETTING. DETENTIONS WILL BE ASSIGNED FOR VIOLATIONS OF THIS RULE.  Do not bring large sums of money and/or valuables to class. Any valuables brought to class should be secured in a locker provided by the school. Students must provide their own combination lock to secure valuables. South Forsyth High School and the Physical Education Department are not responsibility for money and/or valuables left in the locker rooms in which the items are not secured with a lock.

Tardy Policy: . 1st offense: Warning . 2nd-4th offenses: Parent Contact & Teacher Detention . 5th-8th offenses: Administrative referral resulting in an Administrative detention . 9th-11th offenses: 2-4 days ISS . 12th plus offenses: 1-10 OSS
