“Throw the First Stone!”

What exactly was Jesus writing in the dirt as the Pharisees approached him with a woman “caught in adultery” in today’s gospel? This question has often Monday, March 14 been debated by scripture scholars, but what really is 8:00 AM Holy Communion Service the point of this story? Is it not the unconditional mercy, 3:30-7:00 PM Eucharistic Adoration w/Vespers @ 6:30 compassion, and forgiveness of a loving God, no matter Tuesday, March 15 how terrible the sin? In addition, Jesus points out the 8:00 AM Mass hypocrisy of the men in the crowd waiting to stone this Wednesday, March 16 woman (according to Mosaic Law, any woman caught in 8:00 AM Mass adultery should be stoned). He says to them: “Let the Thursday, March 17-St. Patrick, Bishop one among you who has no sin throw the first stone.” 8:00 AM Mass Amazingly, they all leave knowing their own sinfulness. Friday, March 18 How often do we throw stones at others (make 6:30 AM Mass (during Lent only) presumptive judgments, critical remarks, etc.,) without 8:00 AM Mass knowing all the facts? In today’s world of free speech it’s 7:00 PM Stations of the Cross (during Lent pretty easy to do, at least in our country. Recently, our only) new Bishop Daniel Thomas reported some major changes in the way things are being handled financially Lord’s Day – PALM SUNDAY of the Lord’s in the Diocese. He is attempting to be as transparent Passion and prudent as possible. Our finance council hopes to do Saturday, March 19-St. Joseph, husband of the the same. Virgin Mary In this jubilee Year of Mercy, let us examine our 5:00 PM Mass consciences, and ask God to cleanse us of any unkind Sunday, March 20 and/or unjust critical thoughts towards others. And remember, Jesus is just waiting to unconditionally 8:00 AM Mass forgive us as he did the woman in the gospel. 10:30 AM Mass 6:00 PM Mass God bless,

Fr. Steve

The Rites for Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday each has a procession as part of the Liturgy. These processions give us the opportunity to physically become a part of Jesus’ passion. Please join us in the school cafeteria for the beginning of the Palm Sunday Liturgy as we bless the palms and process into the church. Holy Thursday has a procession after Communion as the Body of Christ is taken to an Altar of Repose. Father will invite you to join him as the choir sings Pange Lingua.
