INTRODUCTION

The Tournament Committee of the GHMGC is responsible for organizing the men’s club tournaments throughout the season.

The purpose of this document is to help members better understand the tournament system, the rules and a description of each of the tournament formats.

Each year the committee decides the schedule and formats of tournaments that will be played on a weekly basis. It typically schedules a Singles Tournament and a Team Tournament every week.

Members of the club can play in the tournaments at anytime during the week (even if they are playing with non-members).

Members can enter the Singles Tournament or can enter the Team Tournaments if another person from the group is also a member. If members are playing with non members they just need to fill out the card according to the rules, which include: another name and score on the card, dated, signed and attested and dropped in the tournament box after they have posted their hole by hole scores in the Tournament computer. 1. Tournament Rules 1. You must sign up on the GHMGC System prior to teeing off, same day, then post scores on this system after round, same day. The system has a timer. 2. You may enter each tournament type only once in it’s time period. You can play in all tournament types but only one tournament a day 3. All cards must be filled out with, tournament entered, tee’s played, gross scores only (hole by hole.) Scrambles and some Ryder Cup holes must identify whose drive was used (see examples in Tournament Formats document.) Card must be legible and identify full names. 4. All cards must be dated, signed and attested then dropped in tournament box slot. If only one name on score card it must be attested by golf or pro shop staff. 5. Handicaps will be current, from the computer. 6. On temporary greens you do not take more than 2 strokes from inside the circle. You can still hole out putt in one stroke. If hole closed you put down score according to posting rules (e.g. by handicap (not adjusted handicap,) if you get one stroke you put down a bogey.) You also cannot count drive towards a player in a scramble. 7. If you win more than one prize in a week you will only get credit for the most expensive prize. If equal, it will be the prize of the first tournament you entered. If you hit your maximum, your dollar amount will also be adjusted. If adjusted you still take that winners slot. 8. There is a yearly maximum of prizes that can be Won 9. All the TBD prizes and Match Play prizes are not included toward the regular weekly tournament maximum. 10.Maximum handicap used will be a 34.3 index. 11.Handicap rounding is done as follows: you round the result for each calculation. If the result is .5 or higher you round up to the next highest number, below .5 goes down to the next lowest number. For example 2 players with handicaps of 10 and 19 needing to calculate 50% of their average handicap is done as follows: 10 + 19 = 29 divided by 2 = 14.5 rounded = 15. 50% of 15 = 7.5 rounded = 8. Eight is the handicap used. Another example is: 4 players with handicaps of 10, 19, 6 and 22 needing to calculate 50% of their average handicap is done as follows: 10 + 19 + 6 + 22 = 57 divided by 4 = 14.25 rounded = 14. 50% of 14 = 7. Seven is the handicap used. 12.All tournaments will identify what tees to use or give you the option to pick a tee. 13.A hole-in-one during any men’s club tournament should be reported to the tournament committee ASAP. Special prizes are awarded if you entered hole-in-one option. 14.The schedule may change so always check the weekly postings. 15.There are no “gimmes” during a tournament. Not even one inch. Picking up the ball is a one stroke penalty. 16.If you did not finish your round because the course officially closed, you must contact the tournament director so you can be allowed to play another day. The system will not let you do that.

The GHMGC System will address these rules. This should significantly simplify and reduce disqualifications of tournament scoring. However, using cards will be the ultimate back up in case of problems and therefore must be used. All problems must be presented to the Tournament Chairman ASAP. Decisions by the Tournament Chairman are final. [email protected], 347-439-0530 2. Medal Net – by flight

Team consists of 2 players. Both players on the team tee-off. The team selects the best position of the shots and marks that position. Each team member, including the player of ball selected for play, places his ball within one club length (one putter head on the green) of this selected position (no closer to the hole) and in the same "condition" as the original, selected ball (e.g. fairway, rough, hazard, etc…) This procedure shall be followed regardless of whether "Winter" or "Summer" rules are in effect. Play proceeds in this manner until the hole is finished (finished is defined as first ball put in hole. You must use that score.) The total of all 18 holes played in this manner yields the team's total gross score. The team must use each team member's tee shot at least SIX times during the round. On the score card indicate which player's tee shot was used on each hole. Scoring Procedures: Find the average of the handicaps of both players rounded. Take 50% of the result rounded. This number will be your team handicap. Subtract your team handicap from the team's gross score. This result is the Net Team Score. Handicap example: two player’s handicaps are 10 and 19. This Modified Stableford scoring system assigns points on each hole according to the player's NET score on each hole (after 100% handicap.) An increasing number of points are assigned to reward the lower net scores and increasing reductions are made to penalize higher net scores. The system rewards risk-taking in pursuit of net birdies and eagles. The player records his gross score on each hole and his resulting net score on each hole. Then, based on the resulting net score on each hole, a number of Stableford points are assigned to that hole. The player with the MOST Stableford points is the winner.

You must post on the GHMGC System your GROSS score hole by hole. DO NOT post your ESC score on the club computer, this system will do that for you.

Stableford points are assigned as follows:

The team consists of two players. The first six holes (1-6) are played as One Net Best Ball. Each player plays the hole. Pick the one net best ball for each of the first six holes. Handicap is 100% and is based on the handicap of these holes. The second six holes (7-12) are played as a Scramble Twosome. You must use each players drive at least twice on these six holes. Just put in the score you get on these six holes. The handicap for these six holes will be 1/3 of the team’s average handicap. The last six holes (13-18) are played as a Pinehurst Net twosome. Both players tee-off then hit each other's ball on the second shot. For the third shot, select one of the balls and finish by alternating shots on this ball. For example, if the team picks player A’s ball after the second shot to use for the third shot, then player B must make the third shot. Just put in the score you get on these six holes. The handicap for these six holes will be 1/3 of the team’s average handicap. Handicap example for this tournament: Two player’s handicaps are 10 and 21. The average is 15.5 when rounded it is 16. 1/3 of 16 is 5.333 when rounded is 5. 1/3 is used on the second six holes and 1/3 is used on the last six holes. Thus 10 is the total handicap used.

Add the sum of your gross scores on all holes and subtract your full handicap (which is determined from these mixed tees) to determine your net score. Play hardest 6 holes from green tees (holes 1, 4, 6, 13, 14, 17.) Play second hardest 6 holes from white tees (holes 2, 8, 9, 12, 16, 18.) Play third hardest 6 holes from blue tees (holes 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 15.)

You must post on the GHMGC System your GROSS score hole by hole. DO NOT post your ESC score on the club computer, this system will do that for you.
