BEST of BREED & DOG CC: VILLASSA JACK BE QUICK RDCC: CH ARDERRY PENNY ROYAL TO JAEVA BCC: CH* WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS RBCC: JAEVA KEEN AS MUSTARD BP & PG1: WATERCROFT CALLING TIME
On Friday 15th September the Norfolk exhibitors travelled north to Yorkshire for Darlington Championship show at Ripon. Judging the breed was Mrs Patsy Hollings (Gunalt). She had an entry of 20, consisting of 13 dogs, minus one absent, and 16 bitches with 6 absentees.
Her choice for Best of Breed and Dog CC was Karen Hurrion’s VILLASSA JACK BE QUICK, his first ever high honour. At just over a year old he was sired by a dog Karen imported from Barbara Miller’s kennel in the USA, Am Ch Max-Well’s Union Jack at Villassa, who was the result of a mating between Am Ch Max-Well’s Cool Water and a bitch she bred, Am Ch Villassa Gold Star who was a daughter of Ch Valentines Cherry Crumble. His dam is Villassa Gold N’Delight, a daughter of Ch Belleville Seduction and Ch Villassa All Gold
The RCC went to Ch Arderry Penny Royal To Jaeva, owned by Mrs G Stuivenberg and Andrew Gullick who shows in him in ring. Bred by Debbie Mounfield, he is by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts.
It was a very good day again for Ruth Gee, as her CH WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS gained her second CC following her success at Richmond last week, she now has 4 CCs. Her parents are Ch Blakens Pay Back and Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops.
A nearly day though for Andrew Gullick as JAEVA KEEN AS MUSTARD won her first Bitch RCC; she is just out of Junior, and co-owned with Kate Tate, having been bred by Martin Phillips. She has an international pedigree as she is a daughter of the Swedish imported dog Ch Jiffy Golden Go to Jaeva (Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold – Jiffy Make A Showin); her dam is Jaeva Rose, a daughter of Ger/Int Ch Marks Theodor (Ch Richell Fire Water out of Ger/Ned Ch Marks Clara, who has an American father.
But another of her puppies came up trumps when WATERCROFT CALLING TIME, who after winning Best Puppy went on to win the Puppy Group under Mr L A S Cox. He is from a litter of 5 by Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars out of Watercroft Top Tipple, a Ch Kinsridge Top Gun and Watercroft Hot Cake daughter. and he had to return on Sunday for the final.
Ruth’s puppies, have now won Puppy Group 1 here at Darlington and 2 Puppy Group 2 with WATERCROFT POP CORN at Border Union and WATERCROFT GOLD DUST last week at Richmond. Diane Jenkins has won Reserve Best Puppy in Show with KINSRIDGE WITTY BANTER at City of Birmingham, and another Puppy Group 1 in Wales and a Puppy Group 2 at East of England, so there will be hot competition between them in the months to come.
CITY OF BIRMINGHAM

BEST of BREED & DOG CC: CH ARDERRY PENNY ROYAL TO JAEVA RDCC, BP, PG1 & RBPIS: KINSRIDGE WITTY BANTER BCC & BJ: MARCHDENS LOOK TO THE SKY FOR BLAKENS RBCC: WATERCROFT POP PICKER BV: CH VILLASSA CHERRY CRUMBLE
The City of Birmingham championship show is traditionally held in the first week of September, the Terrier Group was scheduled for Saturday 2nd September, at the show’s permanent home now at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire. Judging Norfolks was Mr Stuart Plane. Dog entries on paper were 22 less 4 absentees from 16 dogs in the ring – one was entered in three classes, up from only 11 appearing last year. In bitches there were 24 paper entries with 4 absent too, so a total of 44 dogs entered and 36 actually shown.
CH ARDERRY PENNY ROYAL TO JAEVA returned to the fray to win his 6th CC and all with Best of Breed; he is now in the ownership of Andrew Gullick and Ms G Van Stuivenberg, having been bred by Debbie Mounfield. To repeat his breeding, he is sired by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts he was born in April 2015, a singleton, and his sire has been responsible for only three other litters registered up to now.
KINSRIDGE WITTY BANTER had an amazing weekend, first ‘Norris’ won Best Puppy, then went on to his second Puppy Group One on the trot under judge, Mr Mike Gadsby, who then gave him Reserve Best Puppy in Show on the final day. He has also won PG2 at East of England from only his 5 shows. His owner and breeder, Diane Jenkins, didn’t get into the ring until nearly 7pm on Sunday, but was delighted to cheer on Dot Britten who had also qualifyed for the finals who had won Best Junior in Show with her young West Highland White Terrier, KRISMA JUMP START. Norris was sired by Kinsridge Quo Vadis, a Nord Ch Kinsridge Quids In son out of Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho.
I have an apology to make to Jackie Phillips and Denise Horne, as Margaret Horne, Jackie’s sister, was the owner of Louby Lou. Jackie’s first taste of ownership according to my records was with Little Miss Pepper Pot born 23/12/2004, sired by Jaeva Gold Leaf – Nora Batty, a Jaeva Fair’n Square daughter who she acquired from Miss E Baldwin; but Jackie really took off when she got a black and tan bitch from Jane Devereux in 2005 called Ch Vichea Pick And Mix, making her up into the first of her 8 champions up to now. Her MARCHDENS LOOK TO THE SKY FOR BLAKENS won her 2nd CC at this show; she was born on 3rd August last year, so only just into junior class – and she also defeated the dog youngster to take Best Junior. Sired by Ch Blakens Pay Back, this is where Louby Lou comes into the picture. as she is the great granddam on the tail female side, through Golden Breeze to her dam, Pie In The Sky, who Denise Horne inherited from her mother.
I have to keep my wits about me too, with the right POP. At this show Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT POP PICKER was RCC for a second time. This has been a very frustrating year for Ruth, with 7 RCCs amongst 3 Watercrofts. Her litter sister is WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS and both have 2 RCCs, though the latter has 2 CCs and a BOB won last year to her name. They also are sired by Ch Blakens Pay Back but out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops and were born in January 2015. Watercroft Pop Picker herself is also the dam of Ruth’s WATERCROFT POP CORN who has won so well as a puppy this year. THE WELSH KENNEL CLUB

The Welsh Kennel Club championship show is held at Builth Wells, a permanent show ground, for the third week running on a Saturday 19th August. Norfolks are now housed in large airy building, so variable weather is not a problem. Judging the breed this year was Mr Roger Thomas (Squirreldene) who used to breed Norfolks in the 1980s with his wife Madeleine. There were no dogs missing from an entry of 14 dogs; amongst bitches there were 4 absentees from the entry of 22 bitches in the catalogue, making a total 34 different dogs – two were in two classes.
He gave Jackie Phillips a day to remember, first handling Best of Breed CH MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS to his 5th CC and 3rd BoB of this year. Owned by her niece, Denise Horne, he is sired by Moortop Marks Delivery (Blakens Sugar Candy Dips out of Moortop Again No Choice). His dam is Lady Miss Cheif (Jaeva Gorden Bennet – Kinsridge Mischief Maker). It was a reversal of form from last week at Bournemouth, as Jill Stevenson’s BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE won the Reserve CC, his second such award. He is by Ch Watercroft In A Pickle out of Brickin Wild Ivy.
Jackie’s second success was from another bitch bred by Denise Horne, in MARCHDENS LOOK TO THE SKY FOR BLAKENS. This was her first such award from only her 4th show; she is just 2 years old, a black & tan, by Jackie’s Ch Blakens Pay Back (Ch Kinsridge Cash Back – Blakens Party Girl); she is out of Margaret Horne’s bitch Pie In The Sky, who was sired by Tegwani Tarot Reader (Ch Belleville Premonition – Love On The Run at Jaeva) out of Golden Breeze (Ch Krisma Crossfire – Louby Loo, one of Jackie’s first bitches).
Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS won her second RCC, she has 2 CCs already to her name. She is in fact a half sister to the CC winner, as she also is by Ch Blakens Pay Back but out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops, she is registered as red wheaten in colour.
The little Norfolk who really made headlines was the Best Puppy Winner, Diane Jenkins’ KINSRIDGE WITTY BANTER. Home bred, he is by Kinsridge Quo Vadis (Nord/Swe Ch Kinsridge Quids In – Kinsridge Kerfuffle), his dam is Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho (Ch Kinsridge Top Gun – Foxhouse Funky Foxtrots to Kinsridge). Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho herself is also the dam of Ch Kinsridge Back Chat, and Kinsridge Hey Ho, and like her half sister last year, Kinsridge Witty Banter went on to win the Puppy Group under Judge Mr D Smith, and had to return to Wales on the last day. He had also been Puppy Group 2 at East of England. The journey home afterwards was very long and tiring amongst all the holiday traffic in pouring rain.
BOURNEMOUTH

BEST of BREED: PERRISBLU PRICILLA DCC: BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE RDCC: CH MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS BCC: PERRISBLU PRICILLA RBCC: BELLEVILLE COOL SUMMER BP: WATERCROFT CALLING TIME
There are three shows on succeeding Saturdays in August and Bournemouth is the 2nd one on 12th August. Not an easy venue to reach as there are few motorways nearby and so much holiday traffic heading south too, and the show field itself which was bought by the Canine Association is not that easy, with heavy trolleys having to be dragged uphill from the car park to the tents and ringside. This year the ring was in a more central position, so felt more part of the show.
Judging Norfolks was Mr Jeff Luscott, an allrounder, who had an entry of 9 dogs, with no absentees and 20 bitches, with just 3 absent, so a total of 29 entries and 26 to judge. Best of Breed and the Bitch CC, following her success last week at Paignton, was Lucy Dixon’s PERRISBLU PRICILLA, now in her sole ownership. Born in September 2014, she was bred by Phil Davies by Villassa Morrello (Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop – Ch Valentines Cherry Crumble) out of Nordach Lets Dance who is by Titbit Twix at Nordach (Ch/Swe/Dan Ch Jiffy The Sky’s The Limit (imp) out of Solo Surprise, a Jaeva Duty Free daughter. Nordach Lets Dance’s dam is Nordach Step In Time (Nordach Spik And Span – Nordach Back To Front). Winning his first CC was Jill Stevenson’s BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE; he was a very successful puppy last year, now nearly 20 months old. A red dog, he is sired by Ch Watercroft In A Pickle (Strathinver Smart Enough – Watercroft Hot Love) out of Brickin Wild Ivy, whose parents were Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin out of Brickin Steal A Look.
Denise Horne’s CH MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS won the Dog RCC; handled by Jackie Phillips he is from her first litter by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Chief.
In a repeat of last week’s placings at Paignton, Cathy Thompson-Morgan showed her BELLEVILLE COOL SUMMER once again to be the bridesmaid with the RCC. Her sire is Ch Blakens Pay Back and she is out of her CC winner, Belleville Summer Crunch.
Ruth Gee’s new young puppy WATERCROFT CALLING TIME was Best Puppy from the Minor Puppy Dog class. His parents are Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars and Watercroft Top Tipple (Ch Kinsridge Top Gun – Watercroft Hot Cake). PAIGNTON

The terriers group Paignton is traditionally held on the first Saturday in August, this year on the 5th, not the easiest of days for those having to travel to the far west of England as it is the ‘changeover’ day for the many holiday makers flocking to the coast, so a lot of extra time and hassle on the very busy roads leading to the West Point Centre at Clyst, just outside Exeter. Weather was a mixture of sunshine and showers, but mercifully Norfolks were judged inside the echoing hangers. Mr Bill Browne-Cole was judging Norfolks and he drew a total entry on paper of 31, consisting of 10 dogs, five of them just in the puppy dog class, and just a singleton in each of the other classes. 21 bitches were entered, with 5 absentees, but much more evenly spread amongst the classes.
Best of Breed and winning his 5th CC was CH ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA, now in the joint ownership of Andrew Gullick and Mr A & Mrs G Stuivenberg. Bred by Debbie Mounfield he is by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts. Later in the afternoon he went on to be Group 4 under Mr D Shields.
All the other major winners were new names to high honours. The RCC in Dogs went to Linda and Michael Philip’s NORDALSET MADE TO BOOGIE from Limit. A red dog, born in November 2015, he is by Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Nordalset Luv You Madly (Jaeva Gorden Bennet x Nordalset Tell Me U Luv Me at Jaeva).
Winning her first CC was Phil Davies & Lucy Dixon’s PERRISBLU PRICILLA. A red bitch, bred by Phil, she was born in September 2014, sired by Villassa Morrello - his parents are Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop and Ch Valentines Cherry Crumble; her dam is Nordach Lets Dance, by Titbit Twix at Nordach, a Ch Jiffy The Sky’s the Limit dog, out of Nordach Step In Time. She won the RCC at Three Counties this year.
The RCC in bitches went to Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE COOL SUMMER, having left her recent champion at home. She is sired by Ch Blakens Pay Back (by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back) and her dam is Belleville Summer Crunch who won the BCC at Scotland last year – she was sired by Jacquidon Tough As A Nut, a Ch Kinsridge Top Gun son, out of Ch Belleville Honey Nut Crunch (by Ch Belleville Blacklace – Belleville Fruit ‘N Nut
At just six months old KINSRIDGE CRACKSHOT having won a strong Puppy Dog class was Best Puppy. Despite what it says on the website and catalogue he is still in the ownership of his breeder, Diane Jenkins. He is sired by her Ch Kinsridge Top Gun out of a Ch Kinsridge Cash Back daughter, Kinsridge Club Classic.
Then there was the even longer journey home for most competitors. LEEDS

Norfolk specialist Andrea Smith drew a very good entry for a show without CCs, with 32 entries – more than comparable with shows such as Border Union and Bournemouth. The teeming rain made the ground so wet it was difficult to reach the tent and must have been quite a nightmare for organisers.
The top winners did not mind, especially Jill Stevenson with BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE – Best Dog & Best of Breed, The RBD for Mary Atkinson and CHARLIE BLAKE AT MOORTOP, Ruth Gee too was pleased with her bitches in Best Bitch & Best Junior for WATERCROFT POP PICKER and her daughter WATERCROFT POP CORN getting Best Puppy.
Finally congratulations particularly to Karen Hurrion and CH VALENTINES CHERRY CRUMBLE for defying her years, winning first in the breed the Reserve Best Bitch after Best Veteran and then later in the afternoon Group 1 in the Veteran Group under Mrs Jacqui Ward. EAST OF ENGLAND

Norfolks were on the last day, Sunday 9th July for East of England Show, held on the permanent showground outside Peterborough. This show is the half-way point in the season, Judging Norfolks today was Dandie Dinmont specialist, Mrs Frances Chapman-King, and she drew a good entry of 21 dogs, the best this year with no absentees, and 28 bitches, but 11 were absent, so a total of 49 entries with 38 in the ring.
Newly crowned CH ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA won the dog CC and then went on to be Best of Breed. He is now in the joint ownership of Andrew Gullick & Mrs Van Stuinvenberg. Bred by Debbie Mounfield, he is sired by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts. As at Windsor the previous week, Ruth Gee’s CH WATERCROFT CHILLI PEPPER was the RCC adding another RCC to his collection. His sire is Ch Kinsridge Top Gun out of Watercroft Hot Spice.
Congratulations though go to Cathy Thompson-Morgan for making up another champion in *ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS (IMP) who came over from her breeder, Frauke Hinsch in Germany. She is a mixture of Jaeva bloodlines and Allright, being by Fin Ch Heilurihännän Angel Cake, who parents are Fin Ch Jaeva Touch of the Dutch x Ch Jaeva Fallen Angel – she was the Top Norfolk in 2009 and is a daughter of Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake. Black Bess’s dam is Allright Black Pepper, who is by Ger Ch Allright Ali Baba out of Allright Black Cherry, a Ch Belleville Smart Alec daughter. She has had a busy year, starting by winning a Terrier Group 3 in January; her two previous CCs were at Scotland with BOB from Jack Watson and at Border Union under Alan Small. Other successful importations from Frauke Hinsch include Ch Allright Magic Flute, and Ch Allright Lord Byron.
According to my records, this puts CH* ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS (IMP) just in the lead with 66 points at the half way point in the show season, closely followed by 2 dogs on 63, CH* ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA, with 5 shows attended and CH MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS from 8 shows.
The RCC went to the 2nd in the Open class, Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT POP PICKER, this is her first such award; born in November 2015, she is by Ch Blakens Pay Back out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops, and has also managed to produce a litter of 5 puppies by Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars who include the very successful puppy, Watercroft Pop Corn.
Diane Jenkins returned to the limelight with her latest youngster, KINSRIDGE WITTY BANTER. He obviously enjoyed himself at Windsor where he had been second at his first show, but today he won a strong class of 8 puppies and then went on to be Puppy Group 2 under Mrs S Hattrell later in the afternoon. At just seven months, he is sired by Kinsridge Quo Vadis (Nord Ch Kinsridge Quids In out of Kinsridge Kerfuffle) but his dam was the highly successful Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho (Ch Kinsridge Top Gun – Foxhouse Funky Foxtrots to Kinsridge, by Ch Krisma Crossfire). He is thus a half brother to Ch Kinsridge Back Chat and Kinsridge Hey Ho.
Finally Gail Simpson had a good day too when her UMBRAGE LONGTON AT MEGALEX was 3rd in the Veteran Group judged by Miss J Kitchener and, more productively, 2nd in the Veteran Stakes. She has been having a lot of fun with this dog bred by Andre Hess and John Higgins by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Kapitada Fireopal at Umbrage.

Norfolks were first in the ring at Windsor, this year judged on Saturday 1st July in the Home Park in a lovely setting near the Thames. It was dry, but overcast, and the sun made only a brief appearance, making it a pleasant day outside for the dogs. Mrs Tricha Grey drew a good entry of 49 Norfolks. comprising 18 dogs less 4 absent and 31 bitches with 9 absent, so a total of 36 in the ring. Windsor also schedules minor puppy and yearling classes, so five youngsters made their first appearance at a championship show.
Winning his 3rd crowning CC was *ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA, in changed ownership, he is now in the names of his expert handler, Andrew Gullick and Ms G Van Stuivenberg. Debbie Mounfield has thus bred her first champion, as he is sired by Our Ruby Rascal To Jaeva out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts. Our Ruby Rascal is a half brother of Beverly Ackling’s dual CC winner, Ruby Rueben, being by Tegwani Tarot Reader (Ch Belleville Premonition ex Love on the Run at Jaeva) out of Jaeva Bee-Good (Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake – Jaeva Bee Witched) who had been sold earlier to Mrs Susan Nevill-Gliddon. Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts is of mainly Jaeva breeding being sired by Jaeva Pocket Rocket out of Jaeva Ruby Tuesday.
Ruth Gee’s CH WATERCROFT CHILLI PEPPER again had to play second fiddle with the RCC and 2nd in the Open Class. He is by Ch Kinsridge Top Gun out of Watercroft Hot Spice (Strathinver Smart Enough – Watercroft Hot Love).
Andrew Gullick also piloted JAEVA BLUE LAGOON to win her 2nd Bitch CC, she is in the ownership of Andrew and Kate Tate; a black & tan from the Junior Class, she was bred by Martin Phillips by Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold (Ch Kinsridge Top Gun – Jaeva Fancy That) out of Jaeva Miss Dynamite (Ch Kinsridge Cash Back – Jaeva Pardon Me). This was the second time these two had done the double, previously at Three Counties.
Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS (imp) gained her 4th RCC of this year, although she has won 2 CCs as well as a Group 3 in January. Bred by Frauke Hinsch near Verden in Germany, she is by the Finnish sire Fin Ch Heilurihännän Angel Cake out of Allright Black Pepper.

It was a bright sunny day with quite a chilly wind blowing for Southern Counties on Saturday 3rd June. Norfolks, first in the ring at 10.00am, were judged by Norfolk owner Sherril Goodwin.
The Jaeva kennel had a field day, winning everything except Best Puppy which they hadn’t entered. Piloted by Andrew Gullick, joint owner with Kate Tate, ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA was Best of Breed and winning his first CC after making his debut at Bath last week. He was bred by Debbie Mounfield by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva, who is a younger half brother of dual CC winner Ruby Rueben, who very sadly died recently; their dam, Jaeva Bee-Good was bought from her breeder, Martin Phillips by Mrs Susan Nevill-Gliddon; she mated her bitch to Tegwani Tarot Reader for her final time and the result included Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva, who has not been shown so far. The dam, bred by Debbie Mounfield is Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts, who is of pure Jaeva breeding being by Jaeva Pocket Rocket out of Jaeva Ruby Tuesday.
Andrew Gullick also handled the junior dog with the very long name, JAEVA LOOK ‘N LOOK AGAIN AT NORWELSTON LYNJEL who is now jointly owned by Mrs Flo Jellings and Mrs Helen Bakewell. Again he was bred by Martin Phillips by Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Jaeva Cut To the Chase (Jaeva Kiss Me Hardy – Jaeva Point Of View).
As breeder and handler Martin Phillips though was delighted to gain a 3rd qualifying CC with *JAEVA HELLS FIRE. He bred the bitch in May 2014, so she is now three years old, by Ch Jaeva Cufflink out of Ch Jaeva Hells Fury. Officially now she is entered under the names of Andrew Gullick & Kate Tate in the catalogue. She won her first CC in July 2015 at East of England when Patsy Hollings was judging, and her second recently at WELKS from Peter Bakewell where she was also Best of Breed.
Just to fill the cup to overflowing Sherril Goodwin gave the bitch RCC to Andrew Gullick & Kate Tate’s JAEVA BLUE LAGOON, who is just out of the puppy classes, and was Best in Show at our Spring NTC of GB Spring show. She was sired by Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Jaeva Miss Dynamite. Martin Phillips was, of course, the breeder.
Ruth Gee won Best Puppy with her WATERCROFT POP CORN a daughter of Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars and Watercroft Pop Picker who had just won the Open Bitch class.
It was very good news too to see that our excellent Club secretary, Gail Simpson was Group 4 in the Veteran Group with UMBRAGE LONGTON CUM MEGALEX. Now 8 years old he was bred by Andre Hess and John Higgins by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Kapitada Fireopal at Umbrage.
Jane Lloyd was thrilled to learn that a bitch she bred, AM CH ORISON MIDNIGHT DREAMER AT JAEVA has won 3 Best of Breeds, a Group 1 and two Group 2s in the USA in the hands of Jessy and Roxanne Sutton. Bred by Jane in September 2014 she is by Fontanesi Diamond Geezer at Jaeva out of Rainbows End at Bannings.

This show was held on Saturday 27th May on what was the hottest day of the year so far. Thank goodness for in-and-out tents, as at least there is cover against the hot rays of the sun. CCs are not available for Norfolks at Bath yet, so there were not a lot of entries for Joanne Vickers to judge. 5 different males and 14 bitches, with one absent in open bitch, so 18 present from an entry of 20.
Best of breed and Best Dog was Andrew Gullick & Kate Tate’s ARDERRY PENNY RED TO JAEVA, who was bred by Debbie Mounfield; he is a two year old red dog by Our Ruby Rascal to Jaeva, out of Arderry Penny For Your Thoughts, who is of pure Jaeva breeding, being by Jaeva Pocket Rocket out of Jaeva Ruby Tuesday.
Reserve Best Dog was Linda and Michael Philip’s NORDALSET MADE TO BOOGIE an 18 month red dog by Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Nordalset Luv You Madly. (Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Nordalset Tell Me U Luv Me at Jaeva). Best Bitch was Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT POP PICKER, who is a daughter of Ch Blakens Pay Back and Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops.
Reserve Best Bitch went to the Jaeva team with Andrew Gullick, co-owner with Kate Tate, showing black & tan JAEVA BLUE LAGOON (Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold – Jaeva Miss Dynamite).
Best Puppy was WATERCROFT POP CORN, a daughter of Ch Strathinver Sea The Stars and the Best Bitch, Watercroft Pop Picker. SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB

A long trek up to Edinburgh for the exhibitors for Sunday 21st May where the Scottish Kennel Club show is held near Edinburgh. All breeds have to be represented here, despite low entries for some breeds. The Norfolk judge, Mr Jack Watson drew quite a reasonable entry with a total of 19, consisting of 7 dogs with only one bitch absent from the entry of 12.
Winning her first CC and Best of Breed was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS, who she has imported from her breeder, Frauke Hinsch in Germany. Born in March 2014 she has really blossomed this year, starting in January with Group 3 at Manchester (no CCs), but gaining the RCC at the last two shows at WELKS and The National. As her name suggests, she is black & tan, as are her parents, sire Fin Ch Heilurihännän Angel Cake, who was sired by Fin Ch Jaeva Touch Of The Dutch (red) out of Ch Jaeva Fallen Angel (red), the top winner here in 2008. Her dam is Allright Black Pepper, and here there are many strains of black & tan with only one red dog (Ch Belleville Smart Alec) in three generations. Her sire is Ger Ch Allright Ali Baba out of Allright Black Cherry. Making up a first champion is a very special moment, so congratulations are due to breeder Denise Horne, whose *MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS gained his title with his 3rd CC in a row. He is shown and expertly prepared by her aunt, Jackie Phillips; a red dog, he is just out of the junior classes, having been born in September 2015 and was sired by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif, who Denise inherited from her mother, Margaret. (My computer keeps trying to correct the spelling.) She is by Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Kinsridge Mischief Maker, a daughter of Ch Krisma Crossfire and Oktumi Elude – another son of Oktumi Elude is the top sire, Ch Kinsridge Top Gun.
CHARLIE BLAKE AT MOORTOP repeated his National success with the RCC again in Scotland. Owned now by Mary Atkinson, he was acquired from his breeder Mr P Blakey, the sire being Mary’s dog Blakens Sugar Candy Dips and his bitch is Sheltrice Blakeys Molly (Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop – Sheltrice Magic Moment).
CH BLAKENS TOOTIE FRUITIE had to play 2nd fiddle with the RCC in bitches; owned and homebred by Jackie Phillips, she is by Ch Blakens Xpress Yourself out of Ch Blakens Sugar Candy Kisses. She also had won the RCC at Crufts this year.
Best Puppy for the for the 4th and last time was Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT SUZIE’Q – she was born a year ago; this was her 3rd such award this year but she also won Best Puppy from the MPB class at LKA in December last year. She is sired by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops (Ch Kinsridge Top Gun – Watercroft Hot Cake). THE NATIONAL

Less than a week after WELKS the formerly named Birmingham National Show, now held at the Staffordshire County Showground, took place just outside Stafford; terriers were judged on the first day, Thursday 4th May, and judging Norfolk Terriers was Mr Paul Wilkinson, who has judged the breed several times. He drew quite a reasonable entry of 44 consisting of 11 different dogs with two absentees, and 31 bitches, less four missing; so a total of 38 appearing in the ring.
Hotfoot from his first successful foray at WELKS last week, MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS gained his 2nd CC in under a week, and went on to win Best of Breed. Tidied up and shown in the ring by Jackie Phillips, he is from the first litter that Denise has bred, sired by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif.
Mary Atkinson’s CHARLIE BLAKE AT MOORTOP won the Dog RCC, his first such award; bred by Mr P Blakey he is sired by Mary’s Blakens Sugar Candy Dips (Brenin Bazaar at Kinsridge – Ch Blakens Dolly Mixture); his dam is Sheltrice Blakeys Molly, who was also sired by one of Mary’s dogs, Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop out of Sheltrice Magic Moment.
There was a first CC from the bitch classes for Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE OVATION. Her sire has a very international pedigree, imported from Germany from Frauke Hinsch, Allright Highland Moon is by Ger Ch Allright Dancing With Wolves (Ger Ch Allright Northern Dancer ex Tjeps Red Lady Pymore) while his dam, Anderscroft Anadama came over from the USA, she was sired by Am Ch Final Lea Big Ticket Item out of Allright Biscuit. Ovation’s dam is Belleville Constellation, by Kreatin He’s No Angel (Ch Moortop No Choice – Belleville Charlie’s Angel for Kreatin) out of Cathy’s Ch Belleville Intuition. Cathy also won the bitch RCC with her black & tan imported ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS, by the Finnish dog Fin Ch Heilurihännän Angel Cake (Fin Ch Jaeva Touch Of The Dutch – Ch Jaeva Fallen Angel), her dam is Allright Black Pepper (Ger Ch Allright Ali Baba – Allright Black Cherry.
Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT SUZIE’Q returned to winning ways with her 4th Best Puppy award. She will be a year old on the 21st May, her sire is Ch Kinsridge Cash Back and her dam is Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops. W E L K S

BEST of BREED: JAEVA HELLS FIRE DCC: MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS RDCC: BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE BCC: JAEVA HELLS FIRE RBCC: ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS (Imp Ger) BEST PUPPY: JAEVA BLUE LAGOON
Terrier day was on Friday 28th April, the first of the ‘outside’ shows and our breed judge was Norwich specialist, Peter Bakewell. He drew an entry of 37 different dogs on paper. Actually appearing were 8 males, with none entered in the open dog class; but bitches were more plentiful as usual with 26 names in the catalogue but 11 of these were absent, so 15 appeared in the classes. Norfolks were first in the ring. It was cold and overcast with rain threatening, and exhibitors had set up inside the enormous shed to keep warm; bad luck, the judge decided otherwise so they all had to troop outside with their trolleys and cages to be judged in the outside ring which had rather long tufty grass which hid the dogs legs and made moving more difficult. The Norwich classes later were inside.
Best of Breed winning the Bitch CC was Andrew Gullick & Kate Tate’s JAEVA HELLS FIRE; this was her 2nd CC to add to the one at East of England in 2015 from Patsy Hollings. Her sire is Ch Jaeva Cufflink, but she is the 6th generation of Jaeva Hell-ish bitches going back from Ch Jaeva Hells Fury, to Jaeva Helfa Leather, then Ch Hell To Play at Jaeva, back to Jaeva Hell-Maker and finally to Ch Jaeva Hells Bells. They were of course all bred by Martin Phillips.
But it was a red letter day for Denise Horne, as her aunt, Jackie Phillips tidied up and piloted MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS to his first ever CC. He has been on the brink on so many occasions, but this was a real breakthrough. One always remembers a very first CC from one’s own breeding. Her junior dog, born on 14th September 2015 is sired by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif, who had been bred and owned by her late mother, Margaret Horne. Many congratulations to all connections. Beware, a repeat mating has produced some promising bitches.
Jill Stevenson was also winning her first RCC with her young dog BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE, he had been very successful at our Club show recently being Best Dog there, and did very well in puppy classes last year. He is sired by Ch Watercroft In A Pickle out of Brickin Wild Ivy – she is by Jill’s Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin out of Brickin Steal A Look. (Brickin Smart Outlook ex Brickin Stolen Glance).
The bitch Reserve CC was also a first for Cathy Thompson- Morgan’s black & tan ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS, whom she has imported from her breeder, Dr Frauke Hinsch; she was sired by the Finnish Ch Heilurihännän Angel Cake (by Fin Ch Jaeva Touch Of The Dutch ex Ch Jaeva Fallen Angel) out of Allright Black Pepper, by Ger Ch Allright Ali Baba (Elve Valkaria ex Ger Ch Allright Magic Pearl); Allright Black Pepper’s dam is Allright Black Cherry (Ch Belleville Smart Alec ex Swynford Black Pearl). Breeding is so international nowadays. Actually ALLRIGHT BLACK BESS with Cathy had also been 3rd in the Terrier Group at Manchester earlier in January under Mr Mike Vickers.
Best Puppy was last week’s sensation, Andrew Gullick & Kate Tate’s JAEVA BLUE LAGOON, bred by Martin Phillips, she is by reimported Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Jaeva Miss Dynamite. THE NORFOLK TERRIER CLUB of GREAT BRITAIN SPRING OPEN SHOW

On Saturday 22nd April, The Norfolk Terrier Club of Great Britain held their Spring Open Show following the AGM for all members earlier in the morning. Judging the breed was Terrier specialist Mr Bob Blackley. He drew a good entry of 18 dogs, with 2 absent, but there were 41 bitches with 9 missing from the show.
Making a dramatic appearance in the ring as a puppy with little previous experience was Andrew Gullick and Kate Tate’s JAEVA BLUE LAGOON, at 11 months old this black and tan young bitch swept the board at her first major show, winning first the puppy bitch class, then Best Bitch, followed by Best In Show, so automatically became Best Puppy and Best Black and Tan. What a day for the Jaeva connections. Bred by Martin Phillips, she is sired by re-imported Ch/Int Ch Jaeva Made In Gold out of Jaeva Miss Dynamite. Actually the names should have been reversed as it was the daughter who made such an explosion onto the scene. Jaeva Miss Dynamite is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back out of Jaeva Pardon Me, a Jaeva Pocket Rocket daughter from the Swedish imported bitch, Jiffy Future Classic.
Runner up to her, as Reserve Best In Show, 2nd in the Puppy Bitch Class and Reserve Best Bitch was Ruth Gee’s WATERCROFT SUZIE’Q, the result of a successful union between Ch Kinsridge Cash Back and Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops. She had been Best Puppy recently at National Terrier.
At the head of the dog line-up and Best Opposite Sex was Jill Stevenson’s junior winner, BRICKIN POT OF PICKLE, by Ch Watercroft In A Pickle out of Brickin Wild Ivy, a Ch Penmire Wild Bramble by Brickin daughter out of Brickin Steal A Look (Brickin Smart Outlook – Brickin Stolen Glance).
Reserve Best Dog was Mary Atkinson’s CHARLIE BLAKE AT MOORTOP, who was bred by Mr P Blakey, sired by Mary’s Blakens Sugar Candy Dips out of Sheltrice Blakey’s Molly, a daughter by Mary’s Wharfvalley Diamond Bright at Moortop ex Sheltrice Magic Moment.
Patsy Green brought out WHARFVALLEY DIAMOND DIVA to be Best Veteran, they are by Brickin Smart Outlook out of Wharfvalley Rose Petal; the other diamond in the litter, the brother, Ch Wharfvalley Diamond Star had been left at home today.

National Terrier is traditionally held on the first Saturday in April which this year was the first day of the month. It used to be the first championship show at which new puppies born from mid-June appeared for the first time, though regulations have now been relaxed this year so now dogs can also qualify from both Manchester and Boston for Crufts 2017 if they are placed in the main classes and are old enough. For instance Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILE SLIPKNOT, who was born on 27th June 2016 won Puppy Group 3 at Boston, was eligible to enter Crufts this year.
Judging Norfolk Terriers was Norfolk Terrier specialist Bryan Claydon who last judged the breed at Three Counties in 2015. Last time he gave CH KINSRIDGE BACK CHAT the Reserve CC when he was just out of puppy classes, and now as a mature dog he was Best of Breed after winning the Dog CC, making this his 8th ticket. Owned and bred by Diane Jenkins he is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back out of Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho. In a repeat of the Cruft placings, Denise Horne’s MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS was once again the runner up with the RCC. He was from her first litter she has bred by Moortop Marks Delivery out of Lady Miss Cheif. Jackie Phillips though had even better success in the bitch classes as her CH BLAKENS TUTTI FRUITIE won her 4th CC. She was only two years old in February, so now coming to her best; she qualified at Richmond last year. Home bred, she is sired by Ch Blakens Xpress Yourself (a son of Vision Express at Blakens), out of Ch Blakens Sugar Candy Kisses. Vision Express is the older full sister of Lady Miss Cheif, the dam of Marchdens Mark My Words; both were by Jaeva Gorden Bennet out of Kinsridge Mischief Maker.
Ruth Gee also had a good day as WATERCROFT PICK OF THE POPS was Bryan’s choice for the RCC. She has two CCs to her name won last year. She is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back’s son, Ch Blakens Pay Back out of Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops, a Ch Kinsridge Top Gun daughter.
Best Puppy kept the breeding theme going when Ruth’s WATERCROFT SUZIE’Q was Best Puppy. Similarly bred to her BRCC, this time Ch Watercroft Top Of The Pops went a generation back to visit Ch Kinsridge Cash Back to good effect.
There was a new Yearling Stakes competition sponsored by Buddies and judged by Mr Ken Bartlett, where a Norfolk excelled herself by winning the Bitch Stakes class: Karen Hurrion’s VILLASSA COUNTRY BELLE, who born at the end of March 2016; she is sired by Brickin Countrywide out of Ch Villassa Cherry Ripple. BEST of BREED: CH KINGSRIDGE TOP TIP DCC: CH KINSRIDGE BACK CHAT RDCC: MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS BCC: CH KINSRIDGE TOP TIP RBCC: CH BLAKENS TOOTIE FRUITIE BEST PUPPY: BELLEVILLE SLIPKNOT
Crufts is the first championship show of the year which has classes for Norfolk Terriers, and the entries qualify by having a stud book number or being placed 1st to 3rd in any championship show the previous year in 2016, or at Manchester or Boston in 2017. Crufts rotates the breeds over the four days, and after Sunday last year, Terriers were back to Day 1, Thursday 9th March.
Judging Norfolks this year was Terrier specialist and former Chairman of the Kennel Club, Mr Ronnie Irving. He drew a reasonable entry in the dog classes of 19 with just one absentee, and one in 2 classes, but these classes at shows last year were poorly attended. The bitches as usual were far more numerous at 41, with 14 abstentions – making 27 present with a total of 59 entries and 44 actually in the ring, if my maths is correct; nothing like the high entries three or four years ago.
Diane Jenkins had an amazing day winning both CCs, first with her dog, CH KINSRIDGE BACK CHAT gaining his 7th CC in the dog classes. Home bred he is by Ch Kinsridge Cash Back out of Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho; her tie-up with Maureen McPhee’s Foxhouse kennels in the past has been very productive with both Ch Kinsridge Gung Ho and Ch Kinsridge Hot Tip being out of Foxhouse bitches, Foxhouse Funky Foxtrots to Kinsridge, Gung Ho’s dam is by Ch Krisma Crossfire out of Ch Foxhouse Firedance.
Once again CH KINSRIDGE TOP TIP reigned supreme; this was her 32nd CC with her 20th Best of Breed. Her sire Ch Kinsridge Top Gun is by one of Diane’s previous big winners, Ch Kinsridge Top Dollar, but he did not fancy a career at stud much and is now a much loved pet. Top Gun’s dam was Oktumi Elude, by Jaeva Duty Free out of Boduf Lady Binx, one of a remarkable pair of litter sisters, with Oktumi Emma Em, who has been a goldmine for Martin Phillips, producing his Ch Jaeva For Petes Sake and Jaeva Gorden Bennet amongst other good dogs. The Jones’ Oktumi kennel is far better known amongst Welsh Corgis, and they acquired this bitch Boduf Lady Binx from Mr C Hanson – she was by Ch Belleville Smart Alec out of Strathinver Magic Obi with Boduf. What bad luck for the Jones that the bitch they kept Oktumi Els Angel did not breed and they sold the other bitches. Ch Kinsridge Top Tip (Martha) was out of Am Ch Kinsridge Hot Tip, herself a dam of six champions in the UK, USA and Norway. She was by Kinsridge Jack Daniels, an AI son of Am Ch Max-Well’s Cyclone out of Ch Kinsridge Wild Child. Her dam was the Maureen McPhee bred Foxhouse On Fire at Kinsridge, by Ch/Am Ch Kinsridge Free ‘N’ Easy out of Kinsridge Rock Chick at Foxhouse.
Winning his 5th Dog RCC was MARCHDENS MARK MY WORDS, from the first litter bred by Denise Horne, piloted in the ring by her aunt Jackie Phillips. He was sired by Mary Atkinson’s Moortop Marks Delivery, who she bred by Blakens Sugar Candy Dips out of Moortop Again No Choice. His dam though, Lady Miss Cheif (which spelling my PC tries to correct) is out of another daughter of Oktumi Elude in Kinsridge Mischief Maker, and her sire is Jaeva Gorden Bennet bred from Oktumi Emma Em.
Jackie Phillips also exhibited her own CH BLAKENS TOOTIE FRUITIE to the reserve CC in bitches. She has had to play second fiddle eight times last year, but still won 3 CCs, two with as Best of Breed. Home bred from two different lines she is by Ch Blakens Xpress Yourself out of Vision Express at Blakens who was originally owned by Denise’s mother, Margaret Horne. Ch Blakens Xpress Yourself is by Ch Moortop No Choice. Ch Blakens Tootie Fruitie’s dam is another daughter of Kinsridge Mischief Maker – Lady Miss Cheif was a repeat mating of Vision Express. One cannot get away from those two Oktumi sisters from Boduf Lady Binx in the background of their pedigrees.
Best Puppy was Cathy Thompson-Morgan’s BELLEVILLE SLIPKNOT. Born on 27th June, too young for LKA, he qualified at both Boston and Manchester. He is a red son of Ch Strathinver Sea the Stars and Ch Belleville Silk Slippers, and this was his first championship show with CCs awarded.
