Cannon Inspection Checklist. The Tube: [ ] The tube is clean, free of rust or corrosion, with no sign of damage or strain, bulges, pits, etc. [ ] Inside of tube is clean and relatively smooth, with no sign of corrosion damage at breech. [ ] The vent is clear and of acceptable size. [ ] No signs of cracks or bending around the trunnions. . The Carriage: [ ] Wheels are tight and free of rot and infestation. [ ] The Body of the carriage is free of rot and infestation; all wood sound and free of serious checks. [ ] No pieces or parts are missing, cracked, bent, or broken. [ ] None of the iron work is loose. [ ] Elevating mechanism operates properly and tube rotates freely on its trunnions. [ ] Trunnion caps fit snugly and are properly keyed. [ ] Wheels turn freely. [ ] Wheel hub does not gouge the end of the axle tree, and linch pin is not digging into the wheel hub. [ ] The carriage is in good condition and all keys are secured.

. Equipment: [ ] All necessary equipment is present, including gimlet, striking pliers, and vent brush.. [ ] Sponge is in good condition and is fitted to the bore, fitting snugly but not too tight.. [ ] Rammer, worm and sponge heads are in good repair, are secure on staffs, and staffs are straight. [ ] Prongs of the worm are sharp and not bent. [ ] Linstock is in good condition. [ ]Gloves for No’s 1 and 2; proper thumbstall. [ ] Haversack and primer pouch in good repair and free of loose powder. [ ]Sponge bucket does not leak. [ ] Prick is sharp, appropriate length, and of a non-ferrous metal.. [ ] Lids of ammunition boxes and limber chests fit snugly and are self closing. [ ] Ammunition boxes and limber chests are clean, organized, and free of loose powder. . Artillery Demonstration Checklist. Before: [ ] The Gun and equipment have been inspected, and pass the above checklist. [ ] Necessary equipment on hand to handle a misfire. [ ] The required number of personnel on hand to fire the piece, and they are trained in the drill. [ ] The gun is situated safely in relation to the public and surroundings. [ ] Sufficient charges of appropriate size are rolled, ready, and properly stored. [ ] Ample primers are made, ready, and properly stored, and there is ample slow match for the linstock. . During: [ ] The crew is following the approved manual, with each person in proper place at any given moment. [ ] The sponge is adequately damp, but not soaking wet. [ ] The Rammer is wearing gauntlets, but they are not so stiff and heavy as to cause fumbling. [ ] The sponge head never contacts the ground at any time; to prevent grass, sand, etc. from sticking to it. [ ] If there is a misfire, it is handled safely and appropriately according to the drill. . After: [ ] After firing, the piece is serviced and washed out, and dried. [ ] All weapons, explosives, and accessory pieces are accounted for. [ ] The demonstration area is inspected carefully for smoldering residue. [ ] The sponge head is thoroughly rinsed out and dried. [ ] All remaining cartridges are promptly returned to the proper storage areas. [ ] The gun is secured and equipment stored properly. .Rev. 01/2009
