Roswell High School Local School Advisory Council November 12, 2012 Preliminary

Attendees: Joan McCarty, Jerome Huff, , Sara Payne, Judy Agerton, Yvette Ratzlaff, Sage Segal, Jennifer Miner

STING: After consideration and input from teachers and parents, RHS will no longer be having a STING period. For some teachers STING was an additional prep; daily study hall will help some students address help needed for academics. The only drawback in not having STING is the senior privilege where seniors were allowed to leave the building early on STING days. Student council is working on finding other senior privileges.

Drug Search: Building drug search using search dogs was conducted on 11/9. Only one student was found to be in possession of marijuana.

Principal’s Update: RHS was part of the Fulton County Schools Quality Review. Group went into each core class to evaluate what is done well and where there are areas for improvement. Overall RHS is found to be doing well with relationships but needs to work on a clearer vision and identifying sub-groups who need more focused support. Additionally, RHS needs to work on processes for ongoing assessment and feedback for students.

The need for staff development was identified as an area for improvement. This month teachers will receive information on “differentiated instruction”.

Roswell Business Alliance: Wednesday, November 14, RHS will host 100-150 realtors in a presentation that will be student led giving an overview of RHS and it’s programs.

Next meeting is Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at 7:30 a.m.
