Home Learning Year 6 3.11.17

Home Learning Year 6 – 3.11.17

1. English/Topic: for Thursday 9th November

 Research a lady called Sadako Sasaki. I’d love you to design a poster/factfile/mood board that tells us all about her. These will go into your topic books so please take care. Be proud of what you do; be creative. Involve parents if you want to! You may do a little art around this too…

2. Maths: pre-learning for Tuesday 7th November; next week, we are learning about area and perimeter.

 Perimeter

Take a look at the video below. Perimeter is trickier when there are missing side lengths…

 Area

In Year 6, you need to know how to find the area of a square, rectangle, triangle and a parallelogram. Use the link below to check these out. If you Google, ‘How to find the area of a triangle’ (or parallelogram, square, rectangle) you will find plenty of good videos explaining these.

I’ve also included a link to a video that explains how to work out areas of composite shapes, something else we need to be able to do.

If you’re feeling confident, have a look at the separate blog where you can have a go at the highlighted questions all about area and perimeter.

Weekly ‘non-negotiables’ – these are things that you should be practising all of the time anyway!

 TT Rockstars- Focus is the 12 times table. Play as much as possible! Competition Day is Friday! Mr K will be online (hopefully) at the following times over the weekend:

Sat @ 09:00; Sun @ 15:00

 Reading: Eagle in the Snow - Finish the book for Tuesday 7th November!

 Learn the spellings sent home (see separate document on the blog) and in your Learning Journals, have a ‘play’ with the words using some of the strategies and ideas on the helpful document provided (for Friday 10th November)

Reminders

 Scratch Website- please ask your parents to create an account for this so that we can use the website in school. Parents, it is at your discretion if you are happy for your child to have an account. Scratch is commonly used by children aged 8 and above. Please see the link below with more details. The ‘Join Scratch’ link is at the top of the page too.

https://scratch.mit.edu/parents/  Match boxes- please could all children bring into school an empty match box. The box really needs to be one that was for extra long matches. We are using them in art as part of our topic. In for Thursday please.

 Could all parents remind their children to bring in their planners on MONDAYS which should be signed by a parent to acknowledge that they have seen what needs to be done this week. Thank you.
