ABBREVIATIONS FOR BLOCKING
Use these blocking notations when reading/directing the blocking for your script.
COMMON NOTATIONS X= cross en = entrance D = down ex = exit U = up / = short pause/breath C = center // = medium pause for dramatic effect R = right /// = long pause L = left FF = face forward
ADDITIONAL NOTATIONS V-Out = 2 actors standing in 1/4 position. One actor on the L & one actor on the R Pivot = Make a turn without crossing. Improv (ad lib) = Create dialog and scene w/o a script based on character & situation. Set or Blocking Diagram = Small line drawing indicating where to put set pieces. or = stand/sit
= speed up Dialogue or action
= slow down

_____ = heavy stress (underlined twice)
EXAMPLES (“S” used to replace character name) S-X-DL (S cross down left) S-X-UC-FF (S crosses up center and faces forward) S--ProfileL (S stands and turns profile left)
