(The International Services Committee Has Updated Its 2013 Version of This 2009 Position

Rotary Club of Elk Rapids International Priorities

The International Services Committee (ISC) proposes to….

- Continue its reputation as a service committee which is focused on and sensitive to the needs of international communities.

- Support Rotary International and District 6290 in their pursuit of international service projects such as the eradication of polio, and the Foundation's six "Areas of Focus": peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development.

- Provide opportunities for club members to increase their awareness and understanding of global issues such as education, self sufficiency, living conditions, health, and humanitarian needs.

- Encourage committee members to seek out service opportunities, present them to the committee for consideration, and lead projects. Look for partnerships that leverage additional strengths in pursuit of service opportunities.

- Support members to become personally involved in targeted international projects. Projects must produce sustainable benefits to the recipients. Ideally, club members would travel to these areas to witness and support the programs.

- Guide the establishment of the club yearly budget relative to international service projects.

- Pursue new fund raising opportunities within the club and throughout the community. This fund raising would be dedicated to international service projects. These fundraisers may also provide an opportunity to educate club and community members.

- Develop a better understanding of the availability of leveraged funds from the Rotary Foundation, Rotary Charities, and the District. Aggressively pursue these matching funds. Attend grant training programs.

- Continue to encourage donations to the Rotary Foundation. These donations support global initiatives and also support our club projects through matching fund opportunities.

- Participate in and support District conferences and seminars related to our club's international service areas of interest.
