QUOYBRAE - Aberdeen and Northern Marts (December 5th) sold 119 cattle and 3,047 sheep at their christmas show and sale. Open Champion in the N F U Mutual, Thurso & Dingwall sponsored show and sale of prime cattle judged by Liam Gunn, Caithness Livestock Breeders was a 578kg Limousin heifer from G M Henderson, Murrayfield, Castletown and sold for £3,000 to Jennifer Lamont, MacKay’s Hotel, Wick. Reserve was a 584kg Limousin bullock also from Murrayfield and sold for 245p grossing £1,421 to J M Munro Ltd, Dingwall. Young Farmers Champion was a 690kg Limousin bullock from Colin Mackay, Hillhead, Lybster and sold for £1,700 to J M Munro Ltd. Reserve was a 632kg Limousin bullock also from Hillhead and sold for 250p per kg grossing £1,575 to J M Munro Ltd. Best Aberdeen Angus was a 726kg bullock from D A Budge, Brae-edge, Castletown and sold for 205p grossing £1,486.25 to J M Munro Ltd. Reserve were two 40kg Texels from James Swanson, Framside, Thurso and sold for £100 a head to Backmuir, Keith. Young Farmers Champion pen of prime lambs sponsored by Duncan and Todd were two 46kg Texels from Fiona Swanson, Hillhead, Dunnet, Thurso and sold for £125 a head to J M Munro Ltd. Prime cattle (18) sold to 226p per kg for a 660kg Limousin bullock from Brae-edge, and £1,556.80 gross for a 695kg Limousin also from Brae-edge. Store bullocks (56) sold to 239p per kg for 272kg Limousins from A J Gunn, Rhemullen, Dunbeath and £1,140 gross for 572kg Charolais from Messrs D Thomson, West Watten, Watten. Store heifers (32) sold to 211.9p per kg for 453kg Charolais from West Watten and £1,100 gross for 574kg Charolais also from West Watten. Breeding cattle (13) sold to £950 for a Simmental cross cow with Limousin bull calf from D J R Mackay, 128 Totiegan, Strathy.
