How “Dinner at Noon” Works

Each “Dinner at Noon” requires seven to ten volunteers:  One coordinator to call team members early in the week to assure their attendance on Saturday, to supervise the meal.  Two or three Cooks to prepare (at their own expense) a hot entree, each to serve 30 (unless this is one of the days when food is provided by a local volunteer institution).  Four Servers who help set up, serve, talk with the guests, and clean up.  One Volunteer to provide fruit for 90 and one gallon of milk.  One Volunteer to provide salad and dressing for 60 and 2 lbs margarine.  At 10.30 AM the coordinator and volunteers arrive at Carver Center bringing the entrees and food supplies. Fruit and extra bread is packed into take home bags. Tables and chairs are then set up and the tables are set with plastic ware and napkins (all disposable supplies and utensils are provided by Helping Hands).  Food Service begins at 11.15 AM and continues until 12.30 PM. We serve the guests at the tables.  Seating in the dining room is limited. If more people arrive than can be seated you may provide them with servings in Styrofoam containers to take home. This is a safety requirement.  At about 12.30 PM, when everyone is finished, we wipe the tables and clean up the kitchen. Clean up is over by 1.00 PM.  Helping Hands has two locked cupboards at Carver Center where all our supplies are kept. Serving utensils and towels etc are to be brought by the coordinator each Saturday.
