(On 7th Feb return to Mumbai by 11.30 am) Brief Information about the Tour:- Anandwan Anandwan literally, means Forest of Joy, located around 5 kilometres from Warora in Chandrapur in the state of Maharashtra is an Ashram of 465 hectares and a community rehabilitation centre which was mainly started for Leprosy patients and the disabled from downtrodden sections of society. It was founded in 1948 by noted social activist Baba Amte. The project is run by the organisation Maharogi Seva Samiti. Two of its other projects are Lok Biradari Prakalp and Somnath, a village for cured leprosy patients.

Hemalkasa

Hemalkasa is a village in the Bhamragad taluka of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra State, India. It belongs to the Madia Gond community. Dr.Prakash Amte and his wife Dr.Mandakini Amte, a couple dedicated their lives to this project for the development of tribal people, in the toughest of conditions. The project located as Hemalkasa, eventually led to the formation of a free hospital, a free residential school and an orphanage for injured wild animals. For their pioneering efforts, Dr Prakash Baba Amte and Dr.Mandakini Amte were awarded the prestigious Magsasay Award for community leadership of the Lok Biradari Prakalp.

Somnath – Baba Amte envisioned Somnath as a village where the cured leprosy patients would live together in a village, which they themselves would set up, using their own resources, blood, sweat and toil.

Somnath is spread across 1300 acres, located in the lush green forests of Tadoba. Situated 54 kilometers north-east of Chandrapur, it is about 100 km south of Anandwan. It is a village of Gandhi’s vision with its own bio-diversity, abundant water and a rich culture. Since 1967, Somnath has been serving as a manpower training center and has inspired thousands of youth. This self-sufficient village is worth a visit
