Description: This basic course in Robotics is a hands on lab based class. Equipment is provided by the originating school. The lab package includes, Industrial Programmable Logic Controllers, NXT Bluetooth enabled robot kits, and the VEX robotics system used in FIRST national robot competition to teach robotics concepts. A new addition to the lab equipment package is a micro controller with simplified programming. A field trip to the Robotics lab at FVTC with hands-on project is part of the experience as well as an industry visit. Required software, small hand tools and electrical parts are also included. Students will receive 1 FVTC credit upon successful completion. * Receiving schools should have one or more computers available for students to program the robots but internet access is not required on these computers.

Optional Proposal Description: Class would meet in some combination to be determined using online and the standard live KSCADE system. Course content would be available partially on a Moodle or Blackboard like system. Students could be live with instructor Mon. and Wed. of one week and Tue, Thur. Friday of the next week. This configuration would be determined by the FVTC scheduler to accommodate another class in the same time slot. * The blended learning option would require that all students have computer access on the web. Description: Science is developing cures for cancer, treatments for diabetes, more efficient solar energy, clothing tht repels water, and new medicines and cosmetics using nanotechnology. Nanotechnology refers to materials and matter on a very small scale, only a few atoms thick. In this course you’ll learn how nanotechnology is changing medicine, environmental science, engineering, computer science, and materials science. You’ll also explore the tools used and the impact that nanotechnology is having on the world. The course will include a field trip to UW- Madison or another university to tour their nanotechnology facilities.
