October 2013
Dear Student
Helston Community College Post 16 Open Evening Wednesday 13 November 2013; 6pm – 9pm
We would like to invite you to Helston Community College’s Post 16 Open Evening on Wednesday 13 November to give you an opportunity to explore the wide range of courses we offer. Helston Community College has a long and successful tradition of high quality Post 16 education; our results are consistently in the top 25% of Post 16 providers in the country and in addition the College was rated as ‘outstanding’ in all measures for Post 16 by OFSTED in 2010/11.
The evening will consist of 3 introductory presentations from the Headteacher, Dr Patrick McGovern, the Assistant Headteacher for Post 16, Mrs Sarah Belshaw and the President and Vice President of the Student Council, Lily Potter and Josiah Haslam. The presentations will be held at 6 pm in the Main Hall on South Site and repeated at 7.30 pm in the Hall of the School’s North Site. As well as the chance to discuss the courses on offer with experienced Post 16 staff, you will have the opportunity to meet with current Post 16 students. If you have not yet clarified options for next year, this is a great opportunity for you to take some advice and consider all the possibilities.
Deciding where to continue education and training is an important decision, and we believe that you will find learning with the College a new, exciting and challenging experience which is very different to school. We value each student, and at Helston Community College we believe our strengths lie in the support and individual attention we give to each student.
Transport to the College is provided free of charge to all Post 16 students who attend the College and financial support is also provided in the form of a College bursary for qualifying students. This year 25% of our intake came from other Schools citing the location, support and community as the main reasons for their decision.
You can also down-load a copy of the Post 16 Prospectus by visiting our website at www.helston.cornwall.sch.uk or there will be copies available at the School.
If you would like further information about the Open Evening, courses, qualifications and training opportunities available at the College, please contact Mrs Trimble in the Post 16 Office on: 01326-575022 or email: [email protected].
We look forward to seeing you on 13 November.
Best wishes.
