2014: The registered moped is on the road!
From 31 March 2014, new mopeds put into circulation in Belgium should be registered. The same goes for mopeds already registered abroad prior to this date and from this date in Belgium or elsewhere (re-registration).*
The vehicle categories concerned by this new registration are: L1e, L2e, L6e :
Mopeds: vehicles with 2 or 3 wheels of a maximum of 50cc, with a maximum speed of 45 km/h ("cyclos") **
Light quadricycles: vehicles of a maximum unladen weight of 350 kg, with a maximum speed of 45 km/h, and of a maximum of 50cc or 4Kw.
From 31 March 2014, new or re-registered vehicles will receive a number plate starting with the letter "S".
The "cyclos" will receive a number plate of the same format as the "motorbike" plate: 21 cm wide and 14 cm high:
Class A (maximum 25 km/h): starts with "A" (S-ABC 001)
Class B (maximum 45 km/h): starts with "B" (S-BAB 001)
"Light quadricycles" will have the choice between 2 formats of number plate, starting with "U" (S-UAB 001)
The "car" number plate: 52cm wide and 11 cm high:
The "motorbike" number plate: 21 cm wide and 14 cm high:
When buying your new vehicle, or a vehicle already registered in Belgium or abroad, you will receive an application form for registration on which the details of the vehicle are printed (705 Customs’ label), including a VAT 904 label and the seller's stamp. Fill it in, sign it and give it to your insurer/broker, so that they can register it via WebDIV***. If the transaction is not possible in this way, please contact the DIV.
Currently, no tax on (entry into) circulation is planned. *Existing vehicles not yet registered will be subject to registration during a later phase, to be specified. **Vehicles of a maximum speed of 18 km/h do not need to be registered. ***WebDIV: registration of vehicles on the Internet. The price of the number plate and the registration certificate is EUR 30, to be paid directly to the postman when the number place is delivered.
