1 Supplementary methods Procedures The dose of doxifluridine was reduced to 350 mg/m2/day (450 mg/m2/day in period using 600 mg/m2/day as starting dose) for grade 2 neutropenia, or grade 1 thrombocytopenia. The administration of doxifluridine was interrupted for grade 3 neutropenia or grade 2 thrombocytopenia or worse until the resolution to at least grade 2 neutropenia, or grade 1 thrombocytopenia with weekly follow-up. If the toxic effects did not improve with 2 weeks of interruption, treatment was discontinued permanently. For grade 3 non-hematologic toxicities (except alopecia, nausea, or vomiting), treatment was interrupted and could be restarted on the recovery to at least grade 1 with 25% of dose reduction. If toxicity recurred at reduced dose, treatment was discontinued permanently. For the patients with moderate renal dysfunction (serum creatinine 1.5 ~ 3.0 mg/dL), cisplatin was administered with reduced dose of 50% and discontinued for further impairment.
