6:00- 15 Welcomes and Introductions 6:15 Reviewed the meeting wise agenda process - Agreed that Afton Gilyard will continue to take notes for this year. Introductions: - Anitra did a computer science internship this summer and will be bringing it to our students. - Katie was accepted into a professional executive leadership development program through Achievement First. Logistics PreK Arrival changes 6:15- 10 o PreK is ariving on the Burnham St. Side of the building to separate them from 6:25 the older kids. o Based on safety of knowing who is in the building. Staff Changes o Approx. 9 people who left based on budgetary constraints o 3 teachers chose to move on to new locations around the country o Additions . Alyssa Angelo 2/3 . Julie Stevens- resource teacher . Lisa Everett- ELA middle school . Melanie Blain- middle school math . Steven Curti- PE. . Ms. Jozwick – music (starting instrumental music) Code descriptions o Fire Drill o Green- evacuation to offsite evacuation location (Rawson School) o Yellow – clear the hallway/ or outside threat o Red- internal threat (hidden)
6:25- 20 mins Overall Highlights from 2015-2016 6:45 - Magnet School of America School of Distinction - Summer School Grant $60,000 (due to state budget we did not get the funds, but we might get for next year) - All doors and ceilings were painted with a grant from the district - Access to 15 acres of land including the fields behind the school, playscape and splash pad - Updated our website -Starbase stem week long field trip grade 5 -Salmon raised and released in CT river MS - All grades had community service partnerships
Curriculum Highlights - Top 3 Hartford public schools in SBAC math growth 8.8% - Teachers College Consultant who coaches in readers and writers workshop - University Hartford partnership (PD with vocab and adopting practicum students) - Character Highlights - All classroom teachers have taken or are taking mindfulness fundamentals - Norma Neumann-Johnson is teaching mindfulness in grades 2-8 in twice a week - Another person is working with pre-k through grade 1
Looking Ahead - Working on our literacy block for PD Centers Word work Intervention -We will have interventions for students k-8 in both literacy and math -More focused professional development teacher by teacher -Katie focused on getting to know kids more academically this summer 6:45- 40 mins School Improvement Plan – To be continued 7:25 Literacy Math Parent Engagement 93% of parents came to more than one event in school other than parent teacher conferences This year our goal is 80% of parents will come to 2 or more events other than conferences Connect Ed on Sunday night at 7pm Character Student Success Plans for every student in grades 6-8 Discover your talent period from 8:30 – 9:23 in middle school o Specials, comp. Sci, leadership, mindfulness, Spanish, etc. 2016-17 SGC Training Schedule We don’t think you need to retake the budget training if you did go last year Katie will check on this.

Good highlights SGC was caught up but some members did not have a lot of time to address things that were on their mind. Next year, maybe Mrs. Leonard can send an agenda with slides for previewing, and members can come prepared to discuss. Also, maybe we have a meeting the first week of school versus the end of the month of September to catch up.
