Fish Aides is a freshman leadership organization within student government designed to develop Texas A&M’s leaders of tomorrow by providing them leadership opportunities today. We believe this is accomplished by focusing on the cultivation of integrity, motivation, confidence, and respect while providing a positive forum for the development of leadership and social skills necessary to maximize freshmen’s potential. Fish Aides is a community that seeks to empower not only its members, but each individual that its members encounter, through encouragement, enthusiasm, and service. Founded in 1979, Fish Aides has progressed into a highly respected, well-known leadership development program and continues to grow each year. The duties and responsibilities of Fish Aides include:

 Being an active, committed member of the Student Government Committee or Commission you are placed for the year by attending meetings and fulfilling your role.  Attending meetings every other week to learn about different facets of leadership, listen to well-respected speakers, and partake in workshops to practically build upon leadership skills.  Serving two hours per week in the Student Government Office at the Fish Aide desk by executing various tasks that help student activities run efficiently.  Paying annual dues of $150 which are used for a Fish Aide T-shirt, Fall and Spring Retreat, seasonal social gatherings, and other leadership programs. (other merchandise, such as extra t-shirts and a fleece, are not included in member dues but are optional for each member).  Participating in community service opportunities with the organization including, but not limited to, Custodial Banquet, the Big Event, and Project Fish.  Attending all Fall semester mandatory events listed below (More mandatory events will be listed in the first meeting along with more specific times for the following):

o Bi-monthly meetings (Thurs. 9/25, 10/2, 10/16, 10/30, and 11/13) o First Night – The Evening of Monday, Sept. 22nd o SGA Committee Placement Meeting – The Evening of Tuesday, Sept. 23rd o Fall Retreat – Friday Afternoon to Saturday Evening one weekend this Fall

We encourage you to attend the all FLO Informational and either of our two Fish Aide Informationals to get to know us better and ask any questions you may have:  All FLO Informational: Monday, Sept. 8th at 7:00 pm in Rudder Auditorium  Fish Aides' Informationals: Wednesday, Sept. 10 th , from 5:30 - 6:40 pm in Rudder 308 and Thursday, September 11 th , from 8:30 - 9:40 pm in Rudder 601.

Please include a resume displaying high school involvement and achievements as well as a list of other things you will be involved in this year while at A&M (1 page limit). No former leadership experience is necessary. Please DO NOT put your name or contact information on your resume.

Complete the following questions. Please limit your essay responses to two pages total and ONLY place the last five digits of your UIN (no names) at the top right corner of your essay responses.

1) Describe an experience you had that developed leadership; how it contributed to your personal growth; and what qualities you gained from the experience.

2) What kind of friendships are you hoping to create and develop during your freshman year at Texas A&M?

3) Describe something about you that makes you unique.

 Please turn in two copies of your application responses and resume with only the last 5 digits of your UIN at the top.  Attach this information sheet to the front of the two copies of your application and resume.  Applications will be due by 5:00 pm on Friday, Sept. 12 th. The room where you will turn your application in at will be announced at the informational. If you have any last minute questions about your application, ask Amy Loyd at the Student Government Office inside Koldus or contact Hunter Dansby at [email protected].

You will find out if you have received a first round interview on Sunday morning, September 14th by email. If you receive an interview, you will be able to sign up for an interview slot that same day from noon to 6:00pm in a room that will be announced. Not everyone will receive a first round interview.
