Title Demonstrate knowledge of funding for an ECE service

Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: sources and types of funding for an ECE service; Ministry of Education funding for an ECE service; and management requirements for administering funding in an ECE service.
This unit standard is designed for people who intend to work, or are working with, children in an ECE service. People working in the wider education sector may also be interested in this unit standard. This unit standard will prepare people to advance to a higher level of study in ECE.

Explanatory notes
1 An early childhood education (ECE) service may include a centre-based service, hospital-based service, or home-based service. The home-based service may be nominated by the child’s parent, be the child’s own home, or the home of the educator. Evidence of one type of service is required in this standard.

Outcome 1
Describe sources and types of funding for an ECE service.
Range sources of funding may include but are not limited to – Ministry of Social Development, community funding, trust grants, family contributions; types of funding may include but are not limited to – fees, koha, fundraising, donations, grants, operational subsidies, capital subsidies, private capital, equity funding, annual top-up for isolated services; evidence is required of five sources and the types of funding available from each identified source.
