SULLIVAN FAMILY GALLERY EQUAL: JESSICA PINSKY artist and Executive Director of Praxis Fiber Workshop brings us her original woven work. This body of work consists of that are planned and executed based on degrees of equality. In each piece there are parts that are perceived as different but are equal in many ways. Inspired landscapes, city scenes and local landmarks are all painted on site during the weekend of the Ohio Plein Air Society’s competition at BAYarts.

NON-TRADITIONAL APPROACHES TO REALISTIC PORTRAITURE SAT 10:00 AM-4:00 PM | JAN 6 & 13 (2 DAYS) VISITING ARTIST MELISSA MARKWALD This 2 day course will explore non-traditional techniques to painting and how those approaches can be refined to construct a realistic image. Students will choose a single reference image to create four paintings that all become all uniquely different. After demonstrating a variety of paint application techniques, the beginning of the class will emphasize experimentation. The class will then shift toward learning facial anatomy and how to use abstract imagery as the basis for a realistic image. SCRAFFITO & MISHIMA: SURFACE DECORATION FOR CLAY SAT 9:30-11:30 AM | OCT 28 & NOV 11 (2 DAYS) Andrea Serafino - Scraffito uses the technique of carving through applied clay paints on leather-hard clay to reveal imagery. Mishima uses the technique of carving first, applying clay paints and then scraping off so that only the color remains in the recessed areas. One small platter and one coil pot will be made on the first day of class and the glazing process will be introduced at the second class. $68

Students will explore classic concepts of line work, stylization, exaggeration, and composition. The coursework will progress from gestural drawing of live models to finished illustrations, and will cover a range of techniques including pencil and charcoal, brushwork and washes, and markers, while gleaning inspiration from a historic overview of fashion illustration. Students will learn how to successfully incorporate their hand-building skills and new wheel-throwing skills to create one-of-a-kind sculptures and utilitarian pieces. Each session within the course will focus on a specific theme, helping students to really explore their ideas and imagination culminating in a unique body of work at the end of the course. CARTOONING with Randy Crider - Take your drawing and cartooning skills to the next level with Randy Crider, nominated by Scene Magazine for Best Illustrator in 2013 and 2014 and is a member of the award-winning Rust Belt Monster Collective. He will draw upon years of comic book and cartooning experience to teach basic drawing skills, showing how to give figures form and incorporating storytelling while helping you find your own personal style. Open to any skill level, this class will leave students with a cartooning portfolio to be proud of and tools to apply to any discipline of art. DRAWING, PAINTING & PRINTMAKING with Allison Polgar - Allison Polgar is a multi-disciplinary artist and illustrator with a primary focus on painting. She has interned and been an instructor at Zygote Press and Art House, and at one time taught drawing at Miami University.
