SUBJECT: AP COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTITUTE 2005

The LAUSD Division of Instructional Services has partnered with Information Technology Division to provide an AP Computer Science Institute at the Thatcher School in Ojai, California. Senior high school computer science teachers are invited to apply for attendance in this 6 day institute that will take place July 10-15, 2005. Teachers will learn to use the JAVA programming language.

This is a valuable opportunity for your teachers to receive professional development in JAVA, the required programming language of the Advanced Placement Computer Science (APCS) course and exam. Teachers will participate in computing activities that focus on the pedagogical nature of teaching computer science to urban youth.

Teachers will become part of an LAUSD teaching cadre to develop and share lessons and units that incorporate best practices. They will use online resources to develop lessons and be introduced to innovative computer science teaching pedagogy.

Important information:

. Dates of institute: July 10-15, 2005. . This is a residential program at the Thatcher School in Ojai. . Substitute coverage and institute costs will be provided. . Space is limited to 25 teachers. . A $100 check must be submitted by the teacher to hold a place ($100 check will be returned upon attendance).
