ELEVATOR EMERGENCIES GUIDE No attempt to move an elevator or remove a person from an elevator should be attempted unless the situation is life threatening.

Only licensed elevator technicians are allowed to move an elevator.

1st alarm: 1 engine, 1 (T/Q/LF) Dispatch: Notify R.P. to call elevator company ASAP

Assignments & Locations *Assign Safety Officer Incident Command Elevator Car location or Fire Control Systems Room Rescue Group (Truck co) Elevator Car location and/or floor above Systems Group (Eng co) Elevator Car location & Mechanical Room *Split crews as needed Request additional personnel and/or USAR, EMS as needed

RESCUE (primary) RESCUE (secondary) 1. Wait for Elevator Technician 1. Forcible Entry <3 ft of landing = hoistway door 2. Re-set Main-line Disconnect 2. Forcible Entry >3 ft of landing = elevator roof hatch *1st Alarm Person Trapped Assignment ELECTRICITY (two separate sources of power) 1. Large Mainline Disconnect Switches (220V or greater) in Elevator Machine Room a. Motor and control panels Re-setting elevator power does not guarantee success b. Equipment Rooms above, below, next to, or remote location from elevator shaft c. Must be shut off before attempting to open doors during forcible entry *d. LOCK OUT/TAG OUT or assign FF to Machine Room with radio – Poor communications 2. Small Disconnect switches (110V) for AC power to elevator car(s) – DO NOT SHUT OFF a. Cab lights, fans, communications, etc *b. May not be located in same location as Mechanical Room, consider Electrical Rooms

ONLY EXPERIENCED ELEVATOR TECHNICIAN’S SHALL MOVE ELEVATOR CARS

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESTORE ELEVATOR SERVICE ONCE ELEVATOR IS DISABLED

LOCK OUT/TAG OUT TO REMAIN IN PLACE AT CONCLUSION OF INCIDENT
