Salient Points from the June 2009 NFYFC Steering Group & Council Meetings

Circulation: County Offices ARAC – Short Minutes, as agreed by Council are attached  ARAC is holding the 2009 Farm Business Development Competition Final at the Royal Show on 8th July  The Second Regional Link Day and Tenancy Training days will be held later in the year, dates will follow  NFYFC continues to support the Fresh Start Initiative and Fresh Start Academy binders will shortly be available for members as well as succession training  ARAC will be taking an active role in the RABDF Careers Event at Stoneleigh on the 16/17 September 2009 & the Board of Management have agreed to Sponsorship of £1,000 for one year to RABDF for use at the Careers Event  Douglas Jackson will chair the RASE Careers debate at the Royal Show on Friday 10 July  The Farming Crisis Network details have been circulated and are on the NFYFC Website. County Offices are to make sure that they have the contact details readily to hand for all YFC members to access

COMPETITIONS  The new Competitions Programme for 2009/2010 with updated venues is attached. Particular note should be taken to the NFYFC Competitions Weekend scheduled for October 2010 at Stoneleigh Park, this will include a full Events Programme on the Saturday evening  It should be noted that the Performing Arts Competition (including Pantomime, drama and entertainment) will not be able to be videoed at Semi Final or National Final level by anyone other than an approved Contractor by NFYFC  Senior Member of Year 2008/2009 has now been reviewed and will become the “Senior YFC Ambassador”, the winner will be asked to write 6 articles a year for the Sponsors Farmers Guardian with the assistance of the NFYFC PR & Publications Officer  The Floral Art Competition 2009/2010 will be junior, intermediate and senior finals  A new venue for the Tug O’ War Final 2009/2010 is needed (preferably an agricultural show in August/September 2010) – (Any ideas to be forwarded to the NFYFC Competitions Desk - current suggestions are for Berkshire Show or The Isle of Man Show)  Young Stockman of the Year is to be brought back into the Competitions programme  Cookery & Floral for 2009 will move to the Three Counties Show Malvern, 26 – 27 September 2009.

EVENTS  It should be noted that Council have approved a 25% discount on pre-booked packages only for the 2010 Convention to be offered to the Devon Federation members as a gesture of good will for this County for 2010 only  As for 2009 Packages, it was agreed that there will be one single booking per County for 2010 Convention, this system worked very well. Note that Counties may appoint a booking officer – this does not have to be done via County Staff

YFC Centre, 10th Street, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, CV82LG Paper number: 080-09-A t: 02476 857 200 f: 02476 857 229 e: [email protected] Page number: 1 of 3  Friday night dress code for Convention 2010 is to be published as per the Events Short Minutes attached  It was confirmed that the following venues have been agreed: o 2010 – Torquay o 2011 – A return to Blackpool (subject to the Winter Gardens being available) o 2012 – A proposal is being worked up for Butlin’s Minehead (it should be noted that the January Council weekend 2010 will be held at Butlins in order for members to view the venue) – County Chairman are also to be invited  Annual Convention 2010 – Saturday night fancy dress themes are to be selected by members via a web poll: o Going on Safari o Saturday Night Fever o A Night at the Panto

 The Events Steering Group are seeking new bands/acts for 2010 Convention, it is hoped to provide more entertainment throughout the day.  Council agreed that NFYFC should not seek a Radio 1 DJ due to poor value for money  The Events Steering Group will support the Committee Steering Group with entertainment at the NFYFC Competitions weekend in October 2010

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT  All as per the attached Short Minutes  Also attached to these Salient points are relevant papers on Guidance leaflet on driving minibuses & the YFC Parents Welcome Factsheets which will be part of the “Are You Ready For Office” pack.  Key Taining Dates are as follows: o The Train the Trainer Course 1th – 13th September 2009 o The Duke of Edinburgh Assessor & Supervisor Courses – These are available if we can get 100 members to attend – anyone interested should contact Jo Bouchard who will try and combine Counties to make up the numbers and then set the training dates o Adventure Management Course – Date to be set o Discovery – Selection Day 5th December – NFU Mutual HQ Stratford Upon Avon o Staff Conference 2010 – 11th & 12th February Hopthorpe Hall Leicestershire.

NFYFC BOARD OF MANAGEMENT  Attached are the short minutes from the NFYFC Board of Management Meeting held on 12 June, as agreed by Council.

NFYFC COUNCIL  Due to a clash of dates with the Floral & Cookery event - the next Council weekend will be on the 7 th & 8th November 2009. Steering Group Meetings will commence at 1.30pm on Saturday 7 th and Council will be 10.30am on Sunday 7th at Stoneleigh Park.  January 2010 Council is planned for Minehead – after that date it is hoped to take Council to one new conference venue to include full accommodation with evening meal, fairly close to Stoneleigh Park
