Moscow is the capital and the largest city of Russia with 12.2 million residents within the city limits. Moscow was founded 9 centuries ago by Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy. Historians have accepted the year of 1147 as the start of Moscow's history. Gradually the city became more and more powerful. In the 16th century under Ivan the Terrible Moscow became the capital of the new united state. Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The heart of Moscow is Red Square. It has more historic associations than any other place in Moscow. St Basil's Cathedral (www.saintbasil.ru) is masterpiece of ancient Russian architecture. He was built in the middle of 16th century in memory of the victory over Kazan. The main Kremlin tower, the Spasskaya Tower, has become the symbol of the country. On the territory of the Kremlin there are old cathedrals, the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great, the Tzar- Cannon and the Tzar-Bell, the biggest cannon and bell in the world.

The Kremlin in Russia is one of the most ancient parts of Moscow city. It is considered as a symbol of whole Russia. The Kremlin is a center of Russian State, cultural sight, residence of Russian Federation president. There are many historical and religious places, located inside the complex, for example, the Armory Chamber, Sobornaya Square, Cathedral of the Archangel, Ivan the Great Bell Ensemble. In 1990 the Kremlin was included to the list of UNESCO (www.kreml.ru/en-Us/museums-moscow-kremlin). There are a lot of beautiful palaces, old mansions, cathedrals, churches and monuments in Moscow. There are more than 100 museums in Moscow. The largest museums are the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts and the State Tretyakov Gallery (www.tretyakovgallery.ru). Other unique museums in Moscow include the All-Russia Museum of Folk Arts, the Andrei Rublev Museum of Early Russian Art, Alexei Bakhrushin Theatre Museum, Mikhail Glinka Museum of Musical Culture and many others. The most famous theatre in Russia’s capital is Bolshoi Theatre. 2-3 ballets and 3-4 different operas are shown there each year. Repertory is focused on classical works of world famous composers – Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Wagner, and Verdi (www.bolshoi.ru/en/)

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is a cathedral in Moscow, Russia, on the northern bank of the Moskva River, not far from the Kremlin. With an overall height of 103 metres (338 ft), it is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world (www.xxc.ru/english/index.htm)

*** Moscow is full of parks, museums, theaters and art galleries, large number of famous Russian institutes and universities, banks and companies is situated here. It is a center of cultural and economic life of Russia. Many tourists enjoy visiting Moscow. The city has great number of hotels and restaurants. Today Moscow is a modern European city with a multi-million population. It is rapidly evolving and becoming more and more beautiful.
