DELAWARE ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATIONAL OFFICE PROFESSIONALS (DAEOP) MEMBER SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

The DAEOP member scholarship was established to assist DAEOP members who are pursuing a Professional Standards Program (PSP) certificate through the National Association of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP) or pursuing a college degree.

INFORMATION

1. Scholarship(s) shall be awarded by DAEOP to recipient(s) determined by the DAEOP Member Scholarship Committee. This committee shall consist of at least one representative from each of the three Delaware counties (i.e., New Castle, Kent, and Sussex). The DAEOP president-elect shall appoint members to serve a one-year term and will act as the chairperson of the committee.

2. The DAEOP Member Scholarship shall be for , which will be paid as a reimbursement to the recipient(s) upon verification of successful completion of course work and submission of grades to the DAEOP treasurer. For recipients pursuing a college degree, a GPA of at least 2.5 shall be deemed successful completion for a first-time member scholarship recipient; a GPA of at least 2.8 shall be deemed successful completion for a second/subsequent-time member scholarship recipient. For recipients pursuing a PSP certificate, successful completion of course work shall be an official transcript, a certificate, or a letter from the instructor as noted under Option I of the NAEOP PSP booklet.

3. DAEOP may award more than one member scholarship during a fiscal year provided funds are available.

4. No scholarship(s) will be awarded if the scholarship committee concludes that no applicant met the specified qualifications.

APPLICATION

An application will be considered complete when the Member Scholarship Committee chairperson has received the following items:

1. Application for scholarship must be on the appropriate form as provided by DAEOP and the application form must be complete.

2. Transcript(s) of previous academic performance. (NOTE: If transcript is not available, a high school diploma OR a GED certificate OR a notarized statement of completion of high school requirements from an appropriate official of the graduating institution.)

3. If pursuing a PSP certificate under Option I, a description of the courses (minimum of two-30 clock hours) with documentation of NAEOP approval if required and a copy of tuition/fees from the sponsoring institution.

4. If pursuing a degree, a copy of course requirements/degree plans is required.

NOTE: Failure to use correct form, and/or submit all requested information, and/or to follow all guidelines will result in disqualification. No exceptions will be made.

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. Applicant must be a current member of DAEOP and must have been a member for three years immediately preceding the date of the scholarship application deadline.

2. Applicant must show proof of enrollment in either 1) NAEOP’s Professional Standards Program (PSP) OR 2) a degree program with an institution of higher education (accredited two- or four-year college or university.)

SELECTION CRITERIA

The member scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic performance, initiative, career goals and/or financial need, nearness to completion of degree or work toward a PSP certificate, participation and leadership positions with local and/or state educational office professional associations or other professional job-related associations, and completeness and neatness of application.

AWARD DISBURSEMENT

1. For those pursuing a PSP certificate, reimbursement will be made AFTER successful completion of course work and submission of an official transcript, a certificate, or a letter from the instructor as noted under Option I of the NAEOP PSP booklet. For those pursuing a college degree, reimbursement will be made AFTER successful completion of course(s) and submission of grade(s) to DAEOP treasurer. For college course work, a 2.5 (of a possible 4.0) or better GPA must be achieved to receive award.

2. DAEOP members may apply for a member scholarship as many times as they desire. In order to be eligible for a second or subsequent scholarship award, an applicant must have maintained at least a 2.8 (of a possible 4.0) GPA. Applicant must remain a member in good standing with DAEOP.
