M I N U T E S

The Board of Trustees of the Onalaska Independent School District met for a Regular Board meeting on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., in the Administration Building. Roll was called and the following were present:

Board Members Linda Vincent, President Brandon Smith, Vice President Pobla Gallier, Secretary Tom Curran, Member Lewis Landsman, Member Dennis Hodge, Member

Staff Members Guests Lynn Redden, Superintendent Lew Vail, Reporter PCE Angela Foster, Business Manager Stella Todd, Curric. And Special Programs Hannah Williams, Elementary/Intermediate School Principal Charles Boyce, Junior Senior High School Principal Anthony Roberts, Assistant Principal Junior Senior High School Adam Graham, JSHS Teacher Angela Waiser, JSHS Teacher James Ard, Food Service Director Ashley Porter, Executive Assistant to Superintendent

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Linda Vincent, President. Greg Cook was not present.

The invocation was given by Charles Boyce.

The pledge was given in unison by everyone.

1. Motion was made by Dennis Hodge, seconded by Pobla Gallier, to adopt the Agenda, as presented. Motion carried 6 for, 0 against. 2. Motion was made by Dennis Hodge, seconded by Pobla Gallier, to approve the minutes of the previous Regular Meeting October 15, 2012. Motion carried 6 for, 0 against.

3. No one spoke in open forum.

4. Hannah Williams, Elementary-Intermediate School Principal, reported the following: Enrollment is 581 students, with attendance at 96% Approximately 200 guests attended the 50th Day of School Celebration. The kindergarten through 3rd grade students had a wonderful time showcasing their 1950’s-style dances for family members. Ms. Sharon Schatz and Mrs. Kim Bennett did a wonderful job teaching the dance, decorating, and hosting the celebration. Sixty-nine students in 2nd through 6th grade met their Accelerated Reading Goal for the first marking period. These amazing readers were awarded gift certificates to the book fair. We would like to thank the parents and community members for helping support our book fair.

Charles Boyce, Principal at the Onalaska Junior-Senior High School, reported the following: Enrollment is 379 students, with attendance at 95.05%. High School National Honor Society inducted 17 new members this year on Oct 18th. The ceremony was very well attended by staff, parents and community members. We had one cross country runner advance to the Regional Cross Country Meet this year. JH OAP will be held in Hempstead on Dec 11th. JH NHS Inductions will be held on November 29

Lynn Redden, Superintendent, reported the following: The District will close for Thanksgiving Holiday from November 19-23. Our status of District Highly Qualified Teachers and Paraprofessionals is at 100%. Discussion on a possible need to reschedule the December meeting.

No report from the Board.

5. Motion was made Pobla Gallier by, seconded by Brandon Smith to approve the Consent Items as presented: a. Tax Report b. School Improvement Plan for JSHS c. Campus Improvement Plan for JSHS d. Campus Improvement Plan for OES

Motion carried 5 for, 0 against.

6. Motion was made by Pobla Gallier, seconded by Lewis Landsman to approve the second reading of Update 95. Motion carried 5 for, 0 against.

7. Motion was made by Tom Curran, seconded by Lewis Landsman to amend the existing 403b policy. Motion carried 5 for, 0 against.

8. No action was taken on a class size waiver presented by Stella Todd.

9. The Board did not enter into Closed Session.

10. Motion was made by Brandon Smith, seconded by Tom Curran to accept the resignation of Kitty Young OJSH Educator and Kim Bennett OES Paraprofessional. Motion carried 5 for, 0 against.

11. Motion to adjourn was made by Pobla Gallier, seconded by Tom Curran, at 7:20 p.m. Motion carried 5 for, 0 against.
