60-Second Commercials
Note: 60-second commercials should be focused and concise (do not say “a good referral for me is anybody who…” – too vague and people will not be able to think of someone specific to give you) I encourage you to practice out loud so it sounds natural and not mechanical. Smile, maintain eye contact and have FUN. People will remember you if you tailor your commercial to your audience/industry you are talking with.
I. This is what I use whenever I am at a networking event or I have met someone while out doing errands. The first part and second part of the sentence doesn’t change…I just switch the middle part of the sentence to tailor it to whatever industry the person is in: To A Real Estate Agent: “I specialize in helping real estate agents increase their referrals by using an amazing follow up tool” To An Insurance Agent: “I specialize in helping insurance agents increase their referrals by using an amazing follow up tool” To A Network Marketer: “I specialize in helping network marketers increase their referrals by using an amazing follow up tool” Or you can switch out the back part: “I specialize in helping you keep the customers you work so hard to get.”
II. I use these ideas when I am part of a networking group that meets on a regular basis: * While I am saying my commercial, I am holding up different samples every week of a business-type card (one you create with someone’s product/logo/vision, etc.), and a personal-type card for friends/family (birthday, thank you, Picture Plus card with word bubbles/captions) so people understand this is NOT an e- card. I also do this because people will relate to at least one of the two cards and how they can use it in their lives. Holding up the envelope to show the real postage stamp also is important so the person sees we do not bulk stamp our cards. Alternate between showing a postcard, regular card, tri-fold, BIG card, video card, etc.

Of those of you planning to send cards, how many of you will be writing those cards out yourself or using a staff member? *Call on someone raising their hand to estimate how long it will take him/her. You can also use the Anniversary reminder to send a card to a client that has been with you for one year, etc. Use the reminder system for pet lovers – send their dog or cat a birthday card – this has created up to 20% more referrals for our clients. Tell stories…I will tell a business related story about a client who owns a day spa. It would be an all- day process for the staff to print out birthday cards, put them in envelopes, create mailing labels, go to the post office and buy stamps. They now use our system and are done with their cards in minutes. Make it a point to schedule a one-on-one meeting with each person in your networking group. Find out about their business and their skills so you can actively refer business to them. Then, walk them through a gift account and teach them to become a sender of cards. In my experience, once you have someone give you a testimonial, it helps build the trust factor and others in your group will start doing business with you and start giving you referrals. You can create a "campaign" card to send to new customers, instead of re-inventing the wheel each time.(i.e. writing 30 separate thank you cards, instead of one campaign card) Send a Starbucks gift card to thank someone for their referral We have expanded our gifts! Along with gourmet gifts like brownies and caramels we now have gifts for kids, pets, home décor, books & magazines – Mrs. Field’s Cookies have just been added (September 27th, 2011) Personalize your cards in your own handwriting, your own signature, and upload your business card in it for less than half the cost of a Hallmark card. Real Estate Agents: Take a picture of your clients in front of their new home, and send it to them as well as their friends and family members (remember your clients need help sending “we have moved” cards) Remember to thank your valuable contacts (Home Inspector, Title Agent...)
