AP U.S. Government & Politics Summer Assignment

CURRENT EVENTS: One of the best ways to prepare for the AP Government class and the AP Exam is to follow political events. Traditionally one of the biggest weaknesses of students is that they enter the course not knowing the “language” of politics, and they are not aware of political events and key players. Pay attention this summer to National politics stories and events.

Focus particular attention on the upcoming National conventions to nominate Presidential candidates and the major Presidential Election in November. Other things to look for: any major legislation coming out of Congress, foreign policy matter which may require U.S. involvement.

What must be turned in:

1. A summary of the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention. These will occur late in the month of July.

2. List 3 other political stories that occurred over the summer and write a short SUMMARY of each story. You need to cite your source and sources should be varied. You should use a least 2 different types of sources (newspaper, website, TV). The dates should be spread out over the summer. This is not something you should try to do the night before the first day of school.

*This is a total of 5 items that must be turned in the first day of school.
