MARIE FAJTOVÁ soprano

Soprano Marie Fajtová first studied piano at Prague Conservatory (1992 - 1998) and then singing with Professor Jiří Kotouč (1998 - 2003). Presently she is polishing her operatic vocal technique with the American soprano Nancy Henninger. In 1994 she won the International Bedřich Smetana piano competition. In the year 2004 she was a finalist in the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition where she won an award to perform with the Prague Symphonic Orchestra FOK.

In the season 2005/2006 she was a member of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen where she created the roles of Norina in Donizetti's Opera Don Pasquale and Fiordiligli in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. Since the season 2007/2008 she is soloist with the National Theatre Opera in Prague. She has added much of the international opera repertoire to her singing roles; Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Frasquita in G. Bizet's Carmen. She has also been performing on the stage of the National Theatre in Czech Operas: Barče in Smetana´s The Kiss and Despino in Martinů´s The Greek Passion.

Marie Fajtová is guest soloist in other Czech Opera Houses. She can be heard as Violetta in the State Opera Prague, as Nedda in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci and as Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi in The National Theatre Brno.

In Japan Ms Fajtová has performed for opera audiences the role of Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. She perfomed the role of Violetta in Regensburg and in Mannheim Germany at their Summer Festivals. Marie Fajtová received rave reviews. In Finland and in France she performed the title role of in Pergolesi´s opera La serva padrona.

A special part of her artistic work is Baroque music. First of all in cooperation with groups Capella Regia in Prague, Collegium Marianum, Collegium 1704 and then with Camerata Nova. During the International Music Festival Prague Spring 2004, she performed as Primislao in Baroque pasticcio Praga nascente da Libussa e Primislao. In 2006 she created the main role in Händel´s Opera Alcina for the festival in Valtice. At the International Festival in Český Krumlov she sang Serpina in La serva padrona and also performed Angelica in Vivaldi's Orlando Furioso) and Agenore in Bononcini's Astarto.

She has sung concerts in many European countries including Spain, Poland, Germany, The Netherlands, Japan and Ceuta, Africa. Ms Fajtová has collaborated with first class conductors such as Jiří Bělohlávek, Jiří Kout, Asher Fish, Michel Schwierczewski, Ondrej Lenárd, or Enrico Dovico. Her concert repertoire includes works of Mozart, Haydn, Dvořák, Händel and R. Strauss.
