Induction Notes – Tutors Oxford Study Courses - Sydney

Welcome to Oxford Study Courses and introductions.

Preliminary compulsory meeting for all tutors 7.45am Monday 3 July, in the Dining Hall. Return to collect students at 8.15am from Dining Hall on first day. Teachers starting courses for the first time on 5, 8 or 10 July please meet Andrew at least 30 minutes before the due start time for your course.

Tutors’ packs are made up in the plastic folder, the same folder you use should you require any additional photocopying, although we ask you to minimise extra copying. The folder also contains class lists, though you should have downloaded these from the Teachers Area on the OSC website; a standard blank invoice for you to fill in (so you get paid); a ‘statement by supplier’ form for taxation purposes (if no ABN supplied); a copy of the feedback form we give to students at the end of each course; some post it notes; some whiteboard markers; and your name tag/lanyard (please wear it to assist everyone).

Parking is available, but limited, at New College for tutors, if essential. Tutors will need to pick up a pass. Please see me if you cannot make alternative arrangements.

Room allocation. Rooms will have been allocated before you arrive, based on size and past experience. A swipe card/key may be needed for unlocking and locking classrooms.

Digital projectors. New College and Shalom have some fitted digital projectors and some extra ones are available for collection from our OSC registration desk if necessary.

Wifi access in classrooms. As requested by some tutors wifi will be made available. Access details will be provided (tbc with Edwina Hine, NC Administrator).

Rolls and roll taking – legal liability. Attendance checked each morning and after lunch. Students must be contacted if more than 10 minutes late. The yellow post it notes are for this purpose, so we don’t have to interrupt classes – tutors are to stick them on the outside of your classroom door, so we know either who is missing or that all students are present. Anthea or Julie-Anne will visit rooms soon after start of class so please check roll first thing.

Health or serious conduct issues with students – contact Emma, Hugo or Andrew.

At Oxford we are keen to improve each year and ask that you take seriously the feedback/evaluation forms that will be distributed later in your course. Meanwhile please feel free to offer any feedback anytime to Emma, Hugo or Andrew. Approximately a month after the courses Andrew will be in touch to check your intentions and availability for 2018.

In summary: Attend classes punctually and well prepared. Collect data projector from registration if needed Inform students where to find evacuation procedures (on back of door) Check roll / stick post it note on door for collection by Emma or Hugo (all present/missing) Be positive and never criticise student’s teacher’s methods/approach/knowledge Set approximately 2 hours homework each night Ensure Feedback/Evaluation forms completed at end of course Join us for drinks and nibbles at end of day in the Buxton’s apartment
