Team Defence Australia Participation at Dsei2013

TEAM DEFENCE AUSTRALIA PARTICIPATION AT DSEi 2013

The Defence Systems and Equipment international [DSEi] 2013 will be held in London, United Kingdom from 10 to 13 September 2013. The DSEi exhibition has evolved into one of the world’s premier defence exhibitions. Australian defence companies are now invited to participate as part of Team Defence Australia (TDA) at DSEi 2013.

Applications will be accepted from 28 April 2013 to 17 May 2013 from Australian defence companies interested in participating on the TDA stand at DSEi. Participation on the stand will be free of charge however participants will be responsible for their flights, accommodation, meals, freight costs and display requirements outside the standard exhibition pod configuration described below. Participating companies will also incur a compulsory exhibitor’s fee of approximately $600.00 which is levied by the exhibition organisers.

The DSEi 2013 Exhibition The organisers of DSEi 2013 have devoted considerable resources to creating an event that is held in a world class venue and attracts very large numbers of military delegations and foreign acquisition officials from around the world. DSEi is a well run professional exhibition that will offer excellent exposure for Australian defence companies, particularly if they undertake pre-exhibition marketing activities to improve their profile prior to exhibiting as part of TDA at DSEi 2013.

Opportunities Europe continues to offer opportunities for Australian defence companies to become involved in wide-ranging programs. Political developments in the region, such as the requirement for European Union member countries to upgrade any older equipment to NATO standards in order to be able to fulfill peacekeeping roles, is just one example of factors spurring on this growth.

Being part of Team Defence Australia Participation in an international defence exhibition as a member of TDA offers considerable advantages for Australian defence companies. In addition to the increased impact from being part of a larger display, TDA provides advice and assistance particularly useful for small and first time exhibitors. TDA is supported by the resources of the Department of Defence and the Australian Defence Force which, through the participation of senior officers, can assist in attracting the interest of international buyers. TDA also engages the resources of Austrade and the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education to assist participating Australian companies.

Team Defence Australia stand The TDA stand at DSEi will be open plan with exhibitors having individual ‘pods’ (approximately 4sqm each) which include a lockable storage cupboard and bench space sufficient to accommodate a laptop computer. There will also be wall space for display of exhibitor names and flat-screen TV or promotional material and bar stool seating. A senior military officer will again be supporting TDA at DSEi 2013. A series of networking events will also be organised to maximise exposure of Australia’s defence industry capabilities.

Applications are also invited from defence industry representatives who wish to attend the exhibition but do not wish to take dedicated display floor space on the stand. These participants, referred to as ‘Rovers’, will be included in TDA events and have access to common floor space (use of meeting and storage rooms and refreshment facilities) and export facilitation assistance on an equal basis with exhibiting participants.

It is expected that both Exhibitors and Rovers will incur the compulsory exhibitor’s fee (estimated in the order of $600.00) levied by the exhibition organisers.

Participating in DSEi The Application form for DSEi will be available via www.defence.gov.au/deu/Events.htm when applications open on 28 April 2013. Applications will be accepted up to close of business 17 May 2013.

Applicants will be required to submit an application form and agree to certain terms and conditions. If the number of applicants exceed available positions on the TDA stand, the following criteria will be used to assess which companies will be invited to participate. 1. Applicability of the product or service to a Defence environment 2. Country of origin for manufacture of product, service delivery and Intellectual Property (IP) 3. Degree to which the product or service directly supports the ADF 4. Degree to which the product or service is unique or ‘niche’ 5. Company’s past performance and reputation, particularly in regard to Team Defence Australia activities.
