Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Trust’s mental health programme and develop new mental health provision on behalf of the Trust. To plan, organise, coordinate, deliver (as appropriate) and monitor/evaluate such programmes.

Increase the Trust’s profile and reputation with key partners/stakeholders as a reputable and trustworthy deliverer of mental health initiatives, across the geographical area it serves.

There is an expectation on the (MPWO), in collaboration with senior staff and the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to seek and gain funding opportunities to secure new health and wellbeing delivery opportunities for the Trust.

Principle Accountabilities

Strategic

 Work with partners and key stakeholders to implement the new mental health intervention which further develops and enhances the Trust’s health offer.  Use appropriate internal and external toolkits and methods to collect information on health needs and priorities to shape targeted delivery.  Research other Trusts/Foundations running similar programmes. Arrange visits and share ideas and good practice.  Take responsibility for the day to day management of programmes, liaising with partners throughout the lifetime of projects/initiatives (attending meetings, etc.).  Take responsibility for managing the project budget and reporting back to funders.

Operational/Delivery

 Plan, deliver and manage programmes, initiatives and events (e.g. mental health programme) to the highest possible standards. This includes for example hiring venues, purchasing equipment, recruiting participants (focusing on targeted groups/geographical areas as required), screening sign-ups and referrals (as appropriate), organising presentations and celebration events, booking player appearances, follow on activities, etc.  Liaise with appropriate Public Health and health care experts to ensure our delivery and resources used by staff are quality assured.  Provide participants with information, advice and guidance on further sports and physical activity opportunities in their locality, based on the individual’s interests and ability.  Signpost individuals with additional lifestyle issues to appropriate health and social care

Safeguarding

 Ensure that when working with staff on current and new programmes that the safeguarding of participants is at the heart of the process and that safeguarding policies and procedures are being adhered to at all times.  Ensure that when you or your staff are recruiting new staff to work on mental health programmes that they follow HR policies/procedures and the safer recruitment process at all times.

Data Protection

 Ensure that you and staff you manage are adhering to the policies and guidelines at all times and that programme data is stored in a secure location.

Funding

 Work with senior staff and the Fundraising & Partnerships Manager to identify and submit relevant grants, funding applications and tenders.  Deliver activities in partnership with funders and sponsors and meet all obligations in respect of grant based funding and sponsorship.

Marketing and Promotion

 Work with relevant staff and external agencies to produce bespoke project resources as well as high quality marketing and promotional materials (e.g. to support specific campaigns).  Utilise social media and technology to communicate with course participants and promote the programmes (where appropriate).  Utilise existing Hertfordshire based marketing and promotional routes to promote the programmes by liaising with partner agencies across the appropriate geographical areas

Health & Safety

 Ensure that all health and safety procedures are in place for activities and that risk assessments have been completed.

Measuring Impact (Monitoring & Evaluation)

 Make use of the VIEWS on-line monitoring and evaluation system (or other similar systems as appropriate).  Capture the social impact/value of programmes/events using outcomes based evidence and a variety of methods such as reports, case studies, testimonies, media articles, feedback surveys, etc.  Ensure questionnaires and measurement tools are quality assured and robust, and where possible are in line with those used for evaluating other mental health interventions in Hertfordshire  Commission project evaluation reports as appropriate.

Finance

 Set appropriate budgets and manage and monitor these to ensure they are on target.

Personnel

 Recruit, manage, train and develop project/ sessional staff (with relevant qualifications and experience) and volunteers and provide them with a challenging and enjoyable working environment.  Conduct appraisals for directly line managed staff, as per the appraisal process.

General

 Undertake professional development opportunities as deemed appropriate.  To adhere to the Trust’s policies and procedures.  Contribute to the development of a culture of continuous improvement within the Trust.  To work in partnership with all the club’s departments on community initiatives as identified by the Community Director and Board of Trustees.  To actively promote the Trust in a positive and professional manner at all times.  To support the aims and ethos of the Trust.  To undertake any other duties which might reasonably be deemed within the status of the job and appropriate to the post.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential

 A degree or relevant qualification (in a related subject area such as health, health psychology, sports psychology or related field).  A sound knowledge of the common mental health issues and their link with physical activity  Experience of working with children or young people with functional mental health problems.  Experience of managing or supervising team of staff or volunteers  An ability to engage, motivate, inspire and mentor people towards achieving their goals  Demonstrable ability to understand and explain the links between physical activity and mental health  An ability to engage, motivate, inspire and mentor people towards achieving their goals.  Experience and success in building relationships and working collaboratively with a range of partners.

 Experience of managing or supervising staff/volunteers.  Current Emergency Aid qualification.  Proficient IT skills – proven experience of using Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and database programmes.  Proven experience of managing budgets  Proven experience of project/event management and experience of report writing  A full and valid UK Driving License as well as access to a vehicle.  Hold a current, or willing to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check with the Trust.

Desirable;

 Register of Exercise Professionals – Level 3 or above or equivalent sports coaching qualification  Experience of developing resources for sport, physical activity or mental health programmes.  Other National Governing Body sports coaching qualifications.  D1 Minibus licence.  Experience of using IT systems to monitor and evaluate the delivery of projects and events.  Experience of delivering training and/or workshops to children and young people
