1.0 Project Overview

This document details the installation of the Axxon MAP/950 PRO PCI 4 Port 16C590 RS232 serial I/O interface Card into Sabre, Travel Network agency workstations. This product has been selected as the replacement for the RocketPort serial card that has gone End of Life. The Axxon MAP/950 4 Port PCI card provides two and four additional serial ports, all the features of the previous RocketPort card, as well as, fitting both full height and low profile workstation configurations.

2.0 Requirements

2.1 Hardware Requirements

 Axxon MAP/950 PRO PCI 4 Port 16C950 RS 232 serial I/O Card  Axxon Driver CD  Axxon Quadplex cable (HD44M to 4 of DB9M)

2.1.1 Workstation Hardware Requirements

 A Sabre certified/approved workstation with Sabre Print Module applications (SPM).

2.2 Software Requirements

The only software necessary to successfully install this hardware is the drivers. All the drivers are provided on the CD shipped with the hardware.

3.1 Installation Prerequisite Checklist

The installer must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 98 and Windows XP as well as an understanding of installing Sabre printers and sending Sabre data to the Sabre printers. This installation from start to finish takes approximately one half hour (30 minutes) to complete.

3.3 Hardware Installation

3.3.1 Installing the PCI card 1. Power down the workstation.

2. Unplug the power cord either from the workstation or from the power receptacle.

3. Remove the workstation cover.

4. The Axxon MAP/950 PRO PCI 4 Port 16C590 RS232 I/O Card is shipped with a low profile bracket installed on the card and a full height bracket in the carton. Utilize the appropriate bracket for the workstation it is to be installed in.

5. Insert the Axxon MAP/950 PRO PCI 4 Port 16C590 RS232 I/O Card into an available PCI slot.

6. Secure the card into the workstation utilizing the appropriate method for the workstation.

7. Install the Axxon Quadplex cable into the HD44 connector on the PCI card. Secure the cable to the PCI card with the screws on the connector.

8. Replace the workstation cover.

9. Plug the power cord back into the workstation or the power receptacle.

10. Installation of the hardware is complete.

3.4 Hardware Functionality Validation

1. Functional testing of the hardware can not be performed until the driver software is installed. Proceed to the software installation section to install the drivers.

3.5 Software Installation

Installation instructions are provided for installation for both Windows 98 Operating System and Window XP Operating System. Use the appropriate section for the system installed in the workstation the hardware is installed.

3.5.1 Installing Drivers in a Win98 O/S 1. Power up the workstation if it is not already powered up.

2. Insert the Softio Driver CD provided with the Axxon hardware.

3. Reboot the workstation.

4. The Add New Hardware Wizard window appears. Click NEXT.

5. Select Search for best driver for your device. Click Next.

6. Select Specify a location. Then browse to the CD drive \Ic0598kb. Click OK.

7. Click Next twice.

8. Drivers will copy. Then click Finish.

9. The Add New Hardware Wizard window reappears. Click NEXT.

10. Select Search for best driver for your device. Click Next.

11. Select Specify a location. Then browse to the CD drive \Ic0598kb. Click OK.

12. Click Next twice.

13. Drivers will copy. Then click Finish.

14. This completes installation of the drivers. All four (4) COM ports should be installed. Proceed to section 3.6 Software Functionality Validation to verify all drivers have been installed correctly.

3.5.2 Install Drivers in a WinXP O/S

1. Power up the workstation, after the hardware is installed, if it is not already powered up.

2. The Found New Hardware Wizard window appears.

3. Insert the Softio Driver CD provided with the Axxon hardware.

4. The Found New Hardware Wizard automatically scans the CD files.

5. Close My Disc (x:), (where x: is the CD drive) window by clicking on the X-box in the upper right corner of the window.

6. The Found New Hardware Wizard window displays a list of ox16PCI954 PCI UARTs. Scroll downward and select x:\ic0653kb\oxpci.inf (where x: is the CD drive) in the location column. Click NEXT.

7. Drivers will copy. Then click Finish.

8. The Found New Hardware Wizard window reappears.

9. Select Include this location in the search. Browse to x:\ic0598kb (where x: is the CD drive).

10. The Found New Hardware Wizard window displays a list of ox16PCI954 PCI UARTs. Scroll downward and select x:\ic0653kb\oxpci.inf (where x: is the CD drive) in the location column. Click NEXT.

11. Files are copied. Click Finish.

12. The Found New Hardware Wizard window reappears.

13. Select Install the software automatically (Recommended). Click Next.

14. Files are copied. Click Finish.

15. Repeat steps 15 through 17 three (3) more times to install drivers for all four (4) COM ports.

16. This completes installation of the drivers. All four (4) COM ports should be installed. Remove the Softio driver CD. Proceed to section 3.6 Software Functionality Validation to verify all drivers have been installed correctly.

3.5.3 Configuring the PCI Communications Ports

The steps to configure the PCI Communications Ports are identical to the steps for configuring the COM ports on the motherboard. While there are additional options available due to the increased size of the buffer, it is recommended the default settings be used. Otherwise follow the values defined in the installation document for the printer attached to the specific port. The installation is complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.6 Software Functionality Validation

3.6.1 Validating Installation of the Drivers in a Win98 O/S 1. Access the Device Manager by selecting START > Settings > Control Panel. Then double click on the Systems icon. Then select the Device Manager tab.

2. Under Ports four new PCI Com Ports should be installed. Due to Win98 sharing IRQ between COM1, COM2, COM3 and COM4, the new ports will start at COM5.

3. If COM5 through COM8 are not installed repeat the driver installation process.

3.6.2 Validating Installation of the Drivers in a WinXP O/S 1. Access the Device Manager by right clicking My Computer and selecting Manage from the drop down menu. Then select Device Manager under System Tools.

2. Under Multifunction adapters the OX16PCI954 PCI UARTs driver should be installed.

3. Under Ports four new PCI Com Ports should be installed. The first port will be COM3.

4. If COM3 through COM6 are not installed repeat the driver installation process.

3.6.3 Validating Operation of the ports in both O/S Validating operation of each port requires connecting a printer to each 9 pin connector and sending data to the printer. Sending data requires utilizing Sabres Print Module and Sabre’s Emulator. Operation of these applications is outside the scope of this document. It is expected the installer is proficient in these applications.
