KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENT:
This Contract of Scholarship entered into by and between:
The ATENEO DE MANILA UNIVERSITY, a private institution of higher learning, recognized by the Commission on Higher Education, with official address at Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City, represented herein by its President, REV. BIENVENIDO F. NEBRES, S.J., hereinafter referred to as ADMU;
and
Mr/Ms ______, ______(status), of legal age, Filipino and residing at ______hereinafter called the GRANTEE:
WITNESSETH: That
WHEREAS, ADMU, pursuant to its objective to develop and enhance Filipino R&D through graduate education, consistent with the Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) and the National Science and Technology Plan (NSTP) of the country, offers the Engineering R&D for Technology (ERDT) Scholarship through the support of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to achieve the objective.
WHEREAS, the GRANTEE whose education, training and experience as shown in his/her information sheet hereto referred as Annex A and made an integral part hereof, is ready, able and willing to accept the ERDT Scholarship Grant with all its terms and conditions specified in this Contract and in the Guidelines referred as Annex B, made an integral part hereof;
NOW THEREFORE, ADMU grants scholarship privileges to the GRANTEE to enable him/her to pursue (Degree)_____ in (Program) ______at ADMU starting (semester)______of Academic Year ______for a duration of (number of years)______.
ERDT Scholarship Contract 1 / 6 I. NATURE
The scholarship grant is offered for the pursuit of Master’s by Research/ Doctorate Degree at ADMU. It covers actual tuition and fees, stipend, book allowance, research grant, MS thesis / PhD dissertation (encircle) grant and transportation assistance.
I. DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship shall be for 2 years for those enrolled in the Master’s program and 3 years for those in the Doctoral program. Except in meritorious cases, scholars may be allowed to go on leave of absence (LOA) not exceeding one semester. During the course of the LOA, the scholar is not entitled to any of the scholarship privileges. The privileges will be restored once the scholar returns from LOA.
The GRANTEE shall devote his/her full-time as required under the approved program of study.
II. FIELDS OF STUDY
This scholarship shall be for the pursuit of a Master’s/Doctorate degree in a field of study offered at ADMU. The thesis/dissertation topic of the GRANTEE shall be in support of the R&D priority areas of ADMU.
III. ENJOYMENT OF ANY OTHER SCHOLARSHIP
The GRANTEE shall not enjoy simultaneously with this scholarship any other scholarship that interferes with his/her contractual obligation or any other provisions in this Agreement.
IV. SCHOLARSHIP PRIVILEGES
ERDT Scholars are entitled to the following:
Financial Privileges: 1. Full tuition and other fees 2. Monthly Stipend of P12,000.00 per month for M.S. or P20,000.00 per month for Ph.D. 3. One return ticket per year (from place of origin) not exceeding P10,000 4. Book allowance of P5,000.00 per semester 5. MS thesis / PhD dissertation (encircle) grant of P30,000.00 / P60,000.00 (encircle)
ERDT Scholarship Contract 2 / 6 V. SCHOLARSHIP OBLIGATIONS
VI.1 Grade Requirement
The GRANTEE must maintain a Cumulative Grade Average of B+ or better.
VI.2 Academic Load Requirement
The GRANTEE must follow the program of study to ensure that he/she shall finish his/her degree within the allotted time.
VI.3 Leave of Absence (LOA)
The GRANTEE may be allowed official leave of absence subject only to the following conditions:
1. The leave is highly justified, supported by pertinent documents. 2. A written permission of his/her research adviser. 3. The maximum allowable leave is for one semester only, except in exceptional cases. An approved leave taken shall not be counted as part of the scholarship period.
VI.4 Extension of Period of Study
Extension of period of study may be allowed on a case-to-case basis for a maximum of one (1) semester, subject to the following conditions:
1. The cause of extension is justifiable; and 2. No financial assistance, e.g. tuition and other school fees, monthly stipends, book allowance, transportation allowance and insurance shall be released except for the unreleased thesis/dissertation allowance. It is understood that the ERDT scholarship program shall not allot additional funds to cover any extension period.
VI.5 Deferment of Scholarship
The GRANTEE may be allowed to defer his/her scholarship award for one (1) semester only. He/She must sign this Scholarship Agreement and the Deferment Form. If after the period he/she fails to enroll, then this scholarship award shall be forfeited.
VI.6 Termination of Scholarship
ADMU reserves the right to terminate the scholarship privileges of the GRANTEE based on any of the following causes:
1. The GRANTEE fails to meet the grade requirements of the graduate program. 2. The GRANTEE willfully fails to enroll in the required subjects required of the Program.
ERDT Scholarship Contract 3 / 6 3. The GRANTEE goes into absence without leave. 4. The GRANTEE exceeds the time allotted to finish the program, not counting the official LOA taken. 5. Commission of misconduct or unethical behavior. 6. Conviction of any crime by a court or proper administrative body. 7. Other acts as may be considered by ADMU as inimical to the interest of the University and those that adversely affect the integrity of the ERDT Scholarship Program.
VI.7 Repayment of Obligations
In cases where the GRANTEE fails to finish his/her degree and/or unable to render the required years of return service to the country, except due to incapacity or death, the GRANTEE shall repay, with interest, all the privileges he/she received from the scholarship + 20% of the amount received from the privileges to cover administration costs for the scholarship.
Scholarship privileges enjoyed by the GRANTEE during the period of the grant shall include tuition and other fees, stipend, book allowance, transportation assistance, research grants and MS thesis / PhD dissertation (encircle) grants (if applicable).
VI. SUPERVISION
The GRANTEE shall be under the supervision and guidance of ADMU and shall comply with all the ERDT scholarship policies including those not contained in this Agreement.
VII. SERVICE IN THE PHILIPPINES
The GRANTEE shall immediately upon completion of his/her Master’s/Doctoral degree, render return service in the Philippines on full-time basis, preferably in his/her home region, along his/her field of training for a minimum period equivalent to the length of time that he/she enjoyed the graduate scholarship. Any service/s rendered before the completion of the graduate degree shall not be counted/considered as part of the service obligation.
VIII. TRAVEL ABROAD
The GRANTEE who will travel out of the country for official or personal reasons, while still under scholarship or return of service or financial obligation may be issued temporary clearance upon submission of the required documents and posting of bond.
IX. OBLIGATION OF THE NGSE
ADMU shall release of scholarship privileges to the GRANTEE in a timely manner.
ERDT Scholarship Contract 4 / 6 X. AMENDATORY CLAUSE
ADMU reserves the right to modify or amend the terms and conditions of this Agreement as deemed necessary due to any violation of the GRANTEE and/or other reasons beyond the control of the concerned parties.
