The Shepherd's Hear the Good News

A Christmas Play

Cast: Shepherd 1, Shepherd 2, Narrator, Angel, Multitude of Angels

Scene 1 - The shepherds are in their fields at night

Shepherds - "Baa, baa" Make sheep sounds

Narrator - "On a hillside just outside of Bethlehem, some shepherds were guarding their sheep one night.

Scene 2 - Angels Appear - Large angel comes down from the sky

Shepherd 1 - "Look!"

Shepherd 2 - "What is it?" (scared)

Angel 1 - "Don't be afraid. I have good news for you. This very day in Bethlehem, a Saviour was born for you. He is Christ the Lord. You will find the baby wrapped in cloth lying in a manger.

Scene 3 - Multitude of Angels - Lots of angels come down from the sky

Multitude of Angels appear (start Music)

Everyone - "Glory to God in the highest heavens and peace on Earth.

Scene 4 - Shepherds go to find the Baby

The shepherds move up and down as the backdrop is moved behind them.

Narrator - "The Shepherds ran to Bethlehem and found the baby as the angels had described. The shepherds told everyone what had happened and what they saw that night and praised God for sending his Son as he had promised. The Nativity: A Pre-school ESL Christmas Play

Cast: Joseph, Mary, Innkeeper, Shepherd 1, Shepherd 2, Narrator, Angel, Multitude of Angels

Scene 1 – Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, leading a donkey.

Narrator – “Long ago, a man and woman named Mary and Joseph travelled to a town called Bethlehem.”

Mary: “I’m tired.”

Joseph: “Let’s go. Walk, walk walk.”

Scene 2 – In Bethlehem, Mary and Joseph stay in a stable

Narrator – “Mary and Joseph looked for a place to stay in Bethlehem, but there was no room at the inn.”

Joseph – “Knock knock knock.”

Innkeeper – “No room!”

Mary – “Knock knock knock.”

Innkeeper – “No room!”

Mary and Joseph walk into a stable. Baby Jesus is in the manger.

Cows and Horses – “Moo” and “Brr” make animal noises.

Scene 3 – The shepherds are in their fields at night

Angel – “Hey. Don’t be afraid.”

Narrator – “The angel said: Don't be afraid. I have good news for you. This very day in Bethlehem, a Saviour was born for you. He is Christ the Lord. You will find the baby wrapped in cloth lying in a manger.

Scene 5 – Multitude of Angels - Lots of angels come down from the sky

Multitude of Angels appear (start music, sing a song: “One Llittle Angel”)

Everyone – “Glory to God in the highest heavens and peace on Earth.”

Scene 6 – Shepherds go to find the Baby

Sheperd 3 – “Let’s go to Bethlehem.”

Sheperds together – “Let’s go!”

Sheperds make running motions, and walk to the stable.

Narrator - "The Shepherds ran to Bethlehem and found the baby as the angels had described. The shepherds told everyone what had happened and what they saw that night and praised God for sending his Son as he had promised.

(Sing a song: We Wish You A Merry Christmas) Ten Little Angels (Tune: "Ten Little Indians")

1 little, 2 little, 3 little Angels 4 little, 5 little, 6 little Angels 7 little, 8 little, 9 little Angels 10 little Angels in the band.

Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled." Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With angelic hosts proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem." Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King!

Ten Little Angels (Tune: "Ten Little Indians") 1 little, 2 little, 3 little Angels 4 little, 5 little, 6 little Angels 7 little, 8 little, 9 little Angels 10 little Angels in the band.
