Prioritized List: 1. Classroom Response Unit

2. Document Camera

3. Graphing Calculators

Reasons for Purchases: These items were chosen based on faculty polls on what technology was needed in the Media Center. The classroom response unit will provide teachers with opportunities to integrate student participation in their lessons. This can include assessment, review or participation in lessons. This type of technology will allow for increased student achievement and serve as a motivator in lessons as well. The document camera is an essential for presenting information in class and for creating lesson presentations. Text can be pictured and then placed in SMART documents or in other presentation media. This will allow for greater ease in preparing and presenting lessons. The last purchase need that was seen in the survey was replacement graphing calculators. The school has graphing calculators but there is not a full class set; there are only 15. The 10 from the purchase will be put with the others to make a classroom set. Many of the math teachers requested graphing calculators for use in math lessons, especially in the eighth grade.

Students love using Not available the handheld Renaissance on State Responders, and you'll love how it Contract engages students in learning. Package includes software, wireless Vendor Information receiver, 24 Renaissance Responder handheld remote units, carrying case, online training, and much more. The classroom response unit that I chose to purchase is the 2Know! Classroom Response System package from the Gradware Company. I chose to purchase this system instead of the H-Itt system because it works with a radio frequency, where the H-Itt system is an infrared remote system. The radio frequency has more reliability and allows for easier use as well. The system also provides training for use with the system. I chose the Gradware Company as the vendor because they offered the best price for the same system. I searched the state contract system for classroom response units and found no results. This led me to believe that none of the above vendors were state contracted. The staff in the survey was very responsive in their need for this type of resource. I can see that there will still be a need for more of these types of resources as well because this only one classroom pack and there are over 40 teachers on staff, not counting the special needs and career connections teachers as well. Priority Purchase #2: Document Camera Item: Image: Description: Cost:  17" x 12.5" maximum viewable area Price: SMART  850,000 Pixel resolution (1024x768) $965.00 280  41.6X Zoom: 5.2X optical zoom and 8.0X digital zoom Docu  Auto Focus and Brightness adjustment  20 frames per second frame rate ment Not  Natural fit with SMART Boards available Came  Simple-to-use document camera designed for on State ra K-12 educators  Notebook collaborative learning software Contract Vendor Information enables the capture of images and video projected onto a SMART Board interactive whiteboard  Control panel-Highly intuitive and easy to use  Automatic focus-Focus projected images with the press of a button  Automatic brightness control for varied lighting conditions  Optical and digital zoom for detailed close- ups  Removable presentation stage for comfortably writing over documents from anywhere in the room or to set up objects under the camera

The document camera that I chose to purchase was the Elmo HV-110u Visual Presenter. Due to the fact that it will be used in a portable sense with so many teachers needing access to the technology; this camera was a good choice due to its weight and the ease to set up. The vendor that I chose to use was School Outfitters. This vendor offered the best price for the purchase. I chose not to buy the other cameras, in particular the SMART camera, due to the cost. The cameras all have similar functions and all will work with the SMART boards that are in each teacher’s classroom. The only option that the camera that I chose did not have is the removable tablet stage. This did not seem to be an essential use for our needs at this time. The teachers and faculty were interested in having a document camera to use during presentation of lessons or preparation of media lessons. The document cameras were not available through state contract. The last priority purchase is a teacher’s pack of graphing calculators. This calculator is specifically designed for middle school math needs. The school already has a set of graphing calculators and the presentation tools to present the information to the class. This purchase will be used to supplement the calculators that the school already has. There are only 15 calculators in the media center at this time, by purchasing 10 more a whole class will be able to participate in a graphing calculator lesson. The only calculators that I looked at to purchase were the TI-73, due to the fact that the calculators needed to be same style and brand to match the other set. I chose the vendor Keenzo due to the fact that they offered the lowest price for the same bundle as the other vendors. The math teachers were very cohesive in their recommendation for the purchase of the graphing calculators. Having students use this interactive tool allows them to take their conjectures on paper and see them realized after using the graphing calculators. This is essential for students in middle school because it allows them to take abstract concepts and turn them into concrete objects, graphs on the calculator. These are not available for purchase through state purchase.

The priority purchases that were chosen during this budget simulation were made from input from surveys completed by the staff and faculty. The school already has SMART boards in each classroom and most teachers have scanners in their classrooms or can access the scanner in the Media Center. There are also digital cameras available for use as well. The other purchase concerns noted in the survey were a poster maker and IPods. I chose to make the purchases that I did due to budget amount given and donating the full use of the funds to resources that will enhance teaching and lesson presentation.
