AUTOMOTIVE SERVICEMAN LEVEL IV Campaign Opens: May 7, 2013 Campaign Closes: May 20, 2013

Salary Range: $30.04 -- $31.62

I. JOB DESCRIPTION: The position of AUTOMOTIVE SERVICEMAN IV reports to the Fleet Operations Supervisor and works with other departments as required. The position provides timely and quality mechanical service repairs and maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment, fabricates equipment as needed, performs field repairs, obtains parts, performs D.O.T. yearly inspections and may perform functional supervisory work in the absence of the supervisor. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The AUTOMOTIVE SERVICEMAN IV is responsible for the mechanical service repairs and maintenance support functions including but not limited to the following:

1. Major and minor vehicle and equipment repair and completes necessary paperwork for recordkeeping. 2. In-field maintenance on vehicles and equipment as required. 3. Hard surface welding and general welding. 4. Body work, painting and glass repair as needed. 5. Operate forklifts and maintain a valid forklift certification. 6. Obtain and maintains a valid First Aid and CPR card. 7. Performs fuel system operation, maintenance and assists in maintaining fuel inventory levels. 8. Maintains wash rack and other fleet systems as required 9. Assists with the fabrication and maintenance of special equipment. 10. Informs Fleet Operations Supervisor when materials, parts or supplies are running low, and assists in maintaining parts stock levels by assisting with periodic physical inventory counts. 11. Performs interim function supervision during the absence of the Fleet Operations Supervisor that may include: a. Supervision other mechanics and helpers. b. Approving invoices following proper accounting procedures. c. Accounting for material inventory by following proper inventory and purchasing procedures. d. Generating various reports such as month-end fueling that includes checking tank levels, computer programs, and interfacing with accounting. e. Learning and utilizing various automotive computer programs such as mileage input, work order input, preventative maintenance, scheduling, etc. f. Purchasing, bidding, and budgeting procedures.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Have a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Eight (8) years of recent experience as a truck mechanic in heavy truck repair and diagnostics. Experience with heavy vehicle hydraulic systems also preferred. 3. Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain an ASE Certified Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certificate in all seven categories: (1) T2 Diesel Engines; (2) T3 Drive Train; (3) T4 Brakes; (4) T5 Suspension and Steering; (5) T6 Electrical/Electronic Systems; (6) T7 Heating, Ventilation, A/C; and (7) T8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection. Courses other than ASE may be acceptable if deemed equivalent and appropriate by the Automotive Supervisor. 4. Able to maintain a valid Class A Arizona Commercial Drivers’ License and qualification as an ADOT driver. 5. Must have or be willing to purchase his own tools necessary to perform his duties. 6. Able to work irregular hours as required to perform the responsibilities of the position. 7. This position may be required to work an evening shift and/or weekends, therefore the individual must have the ability to be self-starting and self-directed. 8. Able to work with a minimal amount of supervision or direction.

IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The work is primarily conducted in an automotive shop environment doing service work on vehicles, major and minor mechanical repairs to vehicles and heave equipment, fabrication of materials, and recordkeeping uses personal computers and associated software programs. This position works around the fumes of vehicles, various chemicals, oils, fuels and solvents used in auto repair. At times, the environment will be dirty and dusty. This position is expected to climb up and down on equipment and work and lift in awkward positions. Outdoor work is frequently to do in-field repairs, so there may be exposure to the cold of winter and the heat of summer. This position must wear protective equipment that is required 100% of the time. The job requires the ability to drive and walk for long periods of time, and to lift and move equipment and materials from warehouse to truck to job site. The job involves 20% climbing ladders; 40% sitting; 50% bending, twisting, walking, standing, kneeling, squatting; 60% crouching, pushing/pulling, and reaching above shoulder level. Frequently the position requires lifting from floor, waist-level, or overhead materials weighing from 10 to 75 pounds. The position requires extensive fine finger dexterity, including simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements with both hands.
