Procedure in event of heating failure. Rainbow Day Nursery

These are the step the nursery needs to follow if the heating fails. (Winter/Cold months only) (If hot water fails in summer months just call Adam no need to follow steps below) Call Adam Marley: 07742 706 808

The law does not state a minimum temperature, but the temperature in workrooms should normally be at least:

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 lay down particular requirements for most aspects of the working environment. Regulation 7 deals specifically with the temperature in indoor workplaces and states that:

‘During working hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings shall be reasonable.’ However, the application of the regulation depends on the nature of the workplace, such as a bakery, a cold store, an office, a warehouse.

To monitor the temperature of the room by the gages Keep a record in the room of the temp on a half hourly bases.

Call all Children’s parents under 2 yrs old first that the nursery is experiencing troubles, that the temp is safe but may be required to collect later if engineer has not resolved problem. Where possible ask parents to go to the website to keep up to date with the situation

Move babies in to a central room, if heating in baby room starts to go below 18C and re-allocate older children around the nursery. Keep lines of communication open between British gas, Brid and parents informing of updates. Call toddler and pre-School parents and inform them of problems.

If heating cannot be fixed or engineer unavailable a decision by management and owner must be reached to ensure the health and safety of the children.

A decision must be reached by 4:30pm to inform all parents about the following days suitability to come to nursery.
