The Consultant Psychiatrist is part of, and provides the clinical leadership to, a multidisciplinary team that aspires to provide excellent bespoke care to enable our patients to fulfil their recovery goals and work towards discharge. The Consultant Psychiatrist is responsible for leading the medical care of patients in their allocated caseload, supervising their allocated Specialty Doctor, and leading the multidisciplinary team. The Consultant Psychiatrist has a key role in leading the team to provide evidence-based treatment, and always putting the patient at the centre of the team’s approach. The medical model of care is a consultant-led service. This post is a Forensic Intellectual Disability Psychiatry post working with a case load of women at Calverton Hill Hospital (Clumber ward, medium secure).
Due to the nature of the caseload the successful candidate will have a CCT in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry or joint CCTs in ID and Forensic Psychiatry. For candidates with ID CCT forensic experience is preferable but not essential. A package of further training and support will be available to holders of ID CCTs to assist them in developing the necessary skills and competencies to work with the challenging but rewarding caseload.

Priory Group Consultant Psychiatrist Page 1 of 4 1. The Consultant in Forensic Intellectual Disability Psychiatry will have expertise in the detailed assessment and management of patients with complex mental health needs. This includes (but is not limited to):
1) Expertise in medication management for patients with ID as well as comorbid mental illness and personality disorder. 2) Physical health screening and medical liaison with colleagues in primary and secondary care. 3) Appropriate use of psychosocial interventions. 4) Appropriate use of mental health and mental capacity legislation, safeguarding processes, appointeeship and Court of Protection. 5) Expertise in dealing with Ministry of Justice restrictions, Prison transfers, Parole Boards and other forensic issues. 5) Expertise in managing patients’ transitions between different settings. 6) Second opinions and advice to colleagues on the diagnosis and management of patients with complex mental health needs.
The Consultant Forensic Intellectual Disability Psychiatrist will be responsible for Clumber ward, a 14 bed medium secure female ID ward.
Admissions are planned in advance following a detailed pre-admission assessment and MDT discussion. Acute admissions are highly unusual.
There is no out-patient service requirement.
There is a full MDT on Clumber ward and there are plans to appoint a speciality doctor to support the ward (to be shared with Newstead ward, also at Calverton Hill). The Consultant Psychiatrist and the Specialty Doctor share responsibility for the day-to-day medical care of the patients on the ward. The Consultant Psychiatrist will lead the MDT. The Consultant Psychiatrist is expected to participate in assessment of referrals, and to lead MDT discussion about referrals, where required. 2. The post-holder reports to the East Midlands Cluster Medical Director for medical/professional matters. Job planning is conducted jointly with the Hospital director and the East Midlands Cluster Medical Director. The post-holder is expected to have formal supervision at a frequency compatible with Priory policy, and to be a member of a peer group within Priory. For matters, such as annual leave or study leave requests, the post-holder will consult the East Midlands Cluster Medical Director. 3. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week, which conventionally runs from 09.00 to 17.00 with an unpaid break of 0.5 hours daily. It is expected that, commensurate with the responsibility of a consultant, the post-holder will display flexibility around working hours if matters of clinical safety require this. The post holder will participate within the existing Priory PIC East Midlands Cluster consultant On Call Rota with a frequency no less than 1:7 (this is a first on call rota). The on call rota is remunerated within salary and the 1 in 7 requirement is not reduced by annual leave periods. If additional on calls above the 1 in 7 become available, these are separately (additionally) remunerated.

Providing committed, proactive and responsive clinical leadership to the MDT, including reflective practice and teaching sessions if required Leading ward rounds, CPA meetings, risk meetings, and care-planning meetings Leading the treatment pathways for each patient Making entries in Carenotes to describe any patient contacts, reviews, and meetings Working with the team to liaise effectively with outside agencies as necessary Participating in assessment of referrals and leading the discussion of referrals Providing timely and fit-for-purpose reports for each CPA meeting, and for the Hospital Managers, Mental Health Tribunal, and commissioners Ensuring evidence-based safe prescribing Leading the team in service development and care innovations Maintaining compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983 and the Code of Practice 5. Other routine clinical duties include:
Psychiatric assessment, risk assessment, capacity assessment, and physical health assessment of admissions, which is documented in the appropriate format on Carenotes Leading the development of patient-centred multi-professional care and treatment plans for all patients Liaising with members of the MDT and other agencies to gather the necessary clinical information to prepare a comprehensive history and formulation for each patient Regularly reviewing and documenting the mental state and progress of each patient at a frequency appropriate to their needs Monitoring patients’ physical health conditions by liaising with the GP service, the Specialty Doctor, and appropriate specialist services Ensuring that medication charts are legible, complete, and compatible with the Consent to Treatment documentation and with BNF guidance Prescribing medication in accordance with the treatment plans Ensuring that capacity assessments are conducted and recorded as appropriate Leading MDT Review meetings, risk meetings, care-planning meetings, CPA and 117 meetings. Preparing reports for CPA meetings and Section 117 meetings in accordance with the Priory CPA documentation and within the agreed timescale for completion Reviewing patients’ management plans after an incident, in consultation with the wider MDT Reviewing patients’ observation and engagement levels at a frequency in accordance with Priory policy or agreed local procedures Maintaining clear, accurate, and timely records of patient contacts in Carenotes Supervising the Specialty Doctor in preparing reports Participating in Audit Participating in the site-wide meetings, including Clinical Governance, at a frequency to be agreed with the Hospital Director and the East Midlands Cluster Medical Director Taking an active role in a Priory Peer Group and maintaining CPD in accordance with RCsych guidelines To support the East Midlands Medical Director and consultant peer group by undertaking Cluster wide duties as agreed Meeting with outside agencies to promote and develop the service
6. The post-holder will participate in the annual Appraisal and Revalidation process in accordance with Priory policy 7. The post-holder will be prepared to occasionally undertake extra clinical duties if an emergency or unexpected clinical incident occur.
8. The post-holder will participate in the development, review and implementation of Priory and local unit policies and procedures
9. The post-holder will participate in Clinical Governance activities and Continuing Professional Development activities as appropriate to their development needs and clinical experience.
